Sound files for canon explosions

Post by pcelt »

Within the Sound files which are the files that define the various explosion sounds for artillery .
I am particularly disappointed at the moment with the cannister sound effect--loved the one with 2nd Manassas Dont know how accurate it was but it really worked re fear and shock effect.
Are there any arty sound mods you would strongly recommend--and what are the file names used in the Sound Folder--2nd Manassas has "Explosions" group but cannot find these in Gettysburg---thanks for any help with this.

Brother,

You can use the sounds from TC2M in SOWGB. My infantry combat sounds are from TC2M. All you need to do is open the TC2M sounds, copy them and re-name them as SOWGB sounds. Then put them in the Sounds folder (or file, whichever), of SOWGB. Voila! New, and in some cases louder, sounds.

Many thanks Jack---my problem is that I dont know which file name in the SOW Gettysburg "Sounds" relates to the cannister explosion.Id be quite happy to copy it across.
Re the general sound volumes I am quite lucky in that being an old lag still with XP it is very easy to edit any .wav in situ and I have certainly upped the volume on many battle effect files--but the cannister one is not a volume issue but the whole effectiveness of the sound.
Cheers

The solution is simple, and you may find it a bit surprising. You actually learned it many years ago, before this and the TCM games were a twinkle in the eyes of their respective programmers.

Make the noises with your mouth.

Edit: Hand motions and yelling obscenities at your troops and the enemy are also highly recommended for a fully immersive experience. If on TeamSpeak, be sure to include your teammates in this exercise.

All it took was a quick search through the files. ;)

Ca_NSDCBurst.wav

Although I don't know how you like the old TC2M canister sound more than the SOWGB one.. The TC2M sounded like a Cambell's Soup can filled with rock salt dropped on the pavement (no offense to whoever created it)... The SOWGB sound is bassey, deadly, frighting.. I still remember the first time I heard it..

Little Powell--Many thanks for pinpointing the file for me.
And so thats how Norb and his Elite Sound Team achieved the deadly canister burst effect in TC2M---and can you really seriously think of any thing more scary or more powerful at conveying "shock and awe" than a Cambell Soup Can filled with real rock salt being dropped from a great height........
Thanks again

That's the beauty of these two games. They can be modded to suit everyone's personal preference.

Glad to help. :)
