Indians

Post by Jekyll and Hyde »

Hi everyone,

I would just like to ask if there will be Indians in the game in the form of tribes that you could come accross during the game, I would not be disappointed if not, so its just a general question, my guess would be not, but no harm in asking :)

I never have enough time to come and ask things or read up on the games progress sadly, I'd love to be able to follow it more closely but its just not possible :(

It is looking terrific though and I am so pleased that another American Civil War game is on the horizon, was never enough out there really, I won't pretend to know everything about the ACW as I don't and my interests are not just the ACW I am also into a more close to home point in history and that is the Medieval times, so I have interest in both, but nonetheless this game is shaping up really well.

Keep up the great work chaps!!!

Jekyll and Hyde ;)

No, the only people in this game are soldiers. Just cost too much to add a new character and we need all our ram for uniforms. Maybe if we were using 3D objects.

Sorry old chum, but I do not think we will see anything like that here.

It's unfortunate that by this time in the Civil War, especially on the eastern seaboard, there were pretty much no indian villages left. Even my nation, the Ottawa (Odawa), that were from the Great Lakes "Council of Three Fires" alliance, had been relegated to reservations by this time as well.

I would love to see a scenario or future mod for this new engine that would include the Cherokee Braves.
Of course this would require creating an entirely new Confederate Cherokee Indian sprite. If I was better at using the Paint Program, I would probably be the one to take a crack at it.:)

My county was once inhabited by several Native American tribes including the Iriquois and Potawatomi and then later outlaws of the horse-thieven and counterfeiting types. I've found a couple arrow heads and a rusted out flintlock frizzen on my property. Still looking for that cache of gold coins with my metal detector those old outlaws were supposed to have buried somewhere in the general vicinity where i live.

Some Cherokees did fight with the Confederacy but as JC mentioned, most Native American tribes were all eventually forced out to the Western territories...aka the 'trails of tears'.

While we're on this subject, how about Yankee black regiments?
Suttlers?
and ugh, the 'camp ladies' who were supposed to have followed Gen. Hooker's army? :cheer:

After playing the Fburg map a bunch of times, i tell you, i could sure use an Engineer regiment to place some pontoon bridges across that dam river!:woohoo:

Hi chaps,

That's ok, I never really expected it and am not worried, it was just curiousity on my part.

Good luck in finding that Gold Ironsight :)

Who knows in years to come it may happen, then again maybe not, but either way its a fascinating game of a time in American history, being in the UK and what prompted me to ask was the fact that occassionally we get the odd Western Movie that is to do with the ACW and in some I have seen Indians, and others not.

But I have no problem with the fact its just soldiers, as long as they have guns and loud bangs etc.....I am more than happy!!

Yeah far as that gold stash, i've done a lot of research on that outlaw band who operated freely for years until they were eventually hunted down and all hung. There hideout was in a nearby shallow lake/remote swampy area. A long high hilly ridge of ground was there access to the hideout. Since my property includes part of that high ridge, there's always hope!
Years ago i worked with a guy in San Diego who later became a friend. He was an avid treasure hunter with an uncanny 6th sense when it came to finding treasure. Whenever we'd go metal detecting he'd always instinctively go to the area where the stuff was buried. One day while metal detecting in a downtown San Diego vacant lot, i noticed he was frantically digging and pocketing in rapid succession. He got himself 43 turn of the century 'silver' Barber dimes that day. Got myself a handful of them old dimes also. Later we found out there used to be an old trolley station in that area. There are'nt too many greater thrills than liberating those bright silver coins from the ground.
Now this guy when he previously lived in Colorado with a couple friends researched an old outlaw band who robbed a stagecoach of a shipment of gold coins and were caught a day later. The gold was never recovered. By extensive research, triangulation, distance perimetering and sheer instinct they found the gold coins buried in a rusted out steel kettle near what he said were the remnants of an old camp fire.
At the time we were seriously researching an outlaw band that operated in the Southern California desert area whose specialty was also robbing stage coach lines. Lost interest though when we were booted off National Park property...dam near got arrested!

As for the indians, am in the middle of reading 'The Blue and the Gray' which states that Confederate General VanDorn's Army at the battle of Pea Ridge included 5,000 indians from the 'Five Civilized Nations'. Indians in the ranks were much more common in the Western than the Eastern battles.
VanDorn by the way outnumbered the Yankees by 2:1 and somehow succeeded in letting his Army get routed. One more in a string of disasters for the Confederacy in the West.

Very interesting that Ironsight and keep searching :)

I apologise for not having replied sooner but many many real life issues got in the way and also finally got 2 formats done in under 24 hours, awful time that but its finally done, and I return.

Hope I can be forgiven for my lack of devotion to the game, I just can't always be like most and come on a regular basis, I'd love to, but I got a nudge from JC and here I am.

It would be interesting for modding purposes to see Indians. Grant's helper, Parker, was an Indian!
