Any tips for this rookie to multiplayer? Is there a specific title to a server on teamspeak?

No tips, the entire thing has been geared so that new players can come in and be competitive instantly. Once you have made your divisions, I believe you need to run the launcher once, otherwise you won't likely need it again (the host of the game will take care of it). You first battle you will only have 1 brigade, but after that, you can go to your division pages and set the limits you want for the # of men and guns maximum that may be brought to a given battle. You can also set your recruitment limits for each of your regiments.

If you've found the TS server info (http://www.sow.philipmcg.com/c/platte/p ... _teamspeak), you're all set, nothing more you need to know. There may be a player or two on during the day but your best bet is to wait until this evening. Since it's Friday, there will be two or more games starting at about 7-7:30 PM EST. That's when you'll want to be on Teamspeak.
