modding flag visibility

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

modding flag visibility

Post by WhiteFlag »

Hi all, i'm looking for a way to remove the flag visibility for units outside my commanders field of view. Basically i'd love to increase the difficulty of spotting approaching troops in HITS Scenarios. Would it be possible to hide the flags until a unit reaches a given range, say 1000 yards, of my position? This would be great for flanking manuevers :)

Thank you gents and enjoy the game

There's no way to mod that. For drawing, we just have visible and not visible. We don't save the information needed to draw this.

The thing that's working against you on this is that as units get farther and farther away, we show just the flag, so it's visible the furthest.

We do not save who is visible to every unit on the battlefield. We save a small list of who are close, but not everyone visible. The exception is arty because their range is so far, their list gets pretty big.

WF,

If you are trying to decrease the visibility of troops advancing on you, let me offer this suggestion - May I send you Davinci's and my Fog Mod? Gauranteed to drive you nuts. Nothing is as annoying as knowing the enemy is out there but not being able to see them until they are right on you.

Cheers.

I agree with what Norb stated above, what you are asking is not within the games program, but there is another way of achieving sort of the same thing.

Jack O'Neill – mentioned that you can use a sort of fog effect to hide the units that are outside of your fighting radius.

The fog effect is extremely moddable and very flexible, meaning that you can set it to act as a slight haze over the field, or a heavy fog that restricts almost everything.

After reading your post I played around with the file that controls the fog, and it is possible to set the functions to restrict \ hide units that are roughly 900 – 1000 yards away, while still having the visibility of the battle-field around you \ camera position.

There is a post within the Modding Section probably a few pages back that explains how the fog works, and how to change the settings.

M and WF,

No, it is not posted anywhere. That would actually require me to do something. Shoot me a PM and I will send you the files. You can create the Mod File yourself. Mine is - G'burg Fog Mod. Place the two files in the new folder and put the new folder on your Mods section. Activate and enjoy. Be advised I have it set up to be a heavy fog. Line of site is about 150-175 yards and still hard to see the enemy there.
