This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Before I start, if this is a RTFM question or beyond the scope of this forum please let me know. I'm trying to figure out why RebBugler's Large Courier Screen does not work for me and some other folks. I've discovered that if I relocate the Cancel Button on the image and update the gscreen.csv to reflect it's new location on the image it doesn't work. Here is what I'm doing and why:

- I relocated the Cancel Button icon down 10 pixels.

- Updated the gscreen.csv file by changing the Y Source to reflect the new location of the Cancel Button icon. My assumption from reading the SDK docs is that the game engine or whatever looks at that location for the Control icon and draws it based on the X Coord and Y Coord of the image. The idea being you could customize that icon but it would still function as the Cancel Button.

What I discovered is that the Cancel Button is drawn 10 pixels lower on the image than it should be. What this says to me that the engine (my term for whatever draws the image) is ignoring the X Coord Y Coord. This behavior occurs on both my computers, which are completely different in almost all respects.

It's quite possible that I have no clue what I'm talking about so any help would be appreciated. The file in question is POPUP_Courier.dds and the only changes to that file is the Cancel Button icon has been moved down 10 Pixels and Y Source has been changed to reflect it's new position.

Thanks

OK, I read the above post several times, and I'm still coming up blank, I will guess that there is a 99% chance that the fault is how you are editing the gscreen file.

Basically - the game is not set to ignore any values, if the game does, then there is a problem somewhere!

But, I don't have that particular mod installed, but I have changed a few settings in that file before, and the game accepted those changes!

Not really helping you out, am I!

I can accept that however the original mod, RebBugler's Large Courier Screen, and its' subsequent incorporation in his Bugles & Flags mod didn't work either for me and some other folks which is what precipitated this in the first place. My attempt was to simplify the process (with RB's consent) to see if I could figure out what was going on. He can't reproduce the problem on his end so it's difficult for him to troubleshoot. Plus he has other, more pressing obligations to the group.

At the risk of repeating myself, I have the same same problem with two disparate machines as does Damned Black Hat and Amish John. I guess I'll just keep plugging away...

Anyway, thanks for looking it over. I'm a big fan of your work. If you don't mind I'm going to look at some of your mods to see how they're set up.

Thanks again

OK, I downloaded the Buglers and Flag V7 mod, along with the Large Courier Screen mod, does it matter if I'm playing the Sand Box Thing, or is this only related to the Scenarios?

born2see - My courier screen is coming up as it should, but this is playing the Sand Box Thing!

Question - do you have the same messed up courier message with scenario's, as well as with the Sand Box Thing?

Doesn't work in either for me. I use the Brigade Level Scenario "Lost Avenue" to test because the courier screen comes up right away. Here is the screenshot from the Sandbox but I have one from the scenario which is the same. Don't think I can load both at the same time. I'm using the Large Courier Screen mod because it less complicated but the same thing happens in the Bugles & Flags mod.

Thanks for looking at this.

born2see - can you set your resolution to 1280x1024 and see what happens?

I think that the problem is related to the file (POPUP_Courier.dds) not being divided by four which throws off the coordinates!

You may have to resize that screen (POPUP_Courier.dds) - and then add in the correct coordinates in the gscreens.csv file!

Davinci, do the large courier screens work for you?

Just to reiterate the issue, with some folks, for some reason gscreens is not reading the modded courier large screen (POPUP_Courier) from the mod's graphics/screens folder. It's reading the stock courier screen graphic. Names are exactly the same for the courier screens, and, it does read the modded Splashscreens.

Somehow the courier graphic name is read wrong by some machines, yet other files in the same 'Screens' folder are read correctly.

I can do nothing to debug since it works fine for me.

RebBugler - now that you ask it that way, I'm not sure - check out the picture that I posted above!

I don't play with the default courier screen - so I'm not sure exactly how the screen is supposed to look!

Hey - born2see posted in the other topic that he is using the resolution of 1366x768 - but this resolution is not divided by four - so would that cause a problem with the file showing properly?

I did resize the file from 1024x768 to 1360x768 - but it's almost impossible to guage how this will work considering that my screens are showing correctly!

I could not create another POPUP_Courier.dds using the file size of 1366,??? - due to 1366 not being divided by four!

Norb, or ADukes - may have to weigh in about if the file not being divided by four is causing the problem with certain resolutions.
