Controls2 - Fonts - Courier
Re: Controls2 - Fonts - Courier
I erased my post accidentally. I don't think this will work unless you can convert a new font to a pft file. You probably have gotten past that. Anyway I have installed PR6 and tried to use Font Maker to no avail.

Re: Controls2 - Fonts - Courier
Looks good. The only problem is the text box is cropping the message.
So I'm really confused now. Did you actually convert a different font or just rename it to match the stock one?

Re: Controls2 - Fonts - Courier
Yes the 1024x1024 will crop the message in the courier screen. I had to reduce the length that the message will write by changing the (550 too 500) in the gscreens – this stopped it on my end. But it still happened with your resolution. No Answer as of Now!Looks good. The only problem is the text box is cropping the message.

I had to select a font and rename it to the default one VinerHand32 to get it to work.
So – there has to be another file that controls some of this – I just don’t know which file!
From the PR6
Expand directory \ Utility – Expand directory \ FontMaker – Expand directory
Click on the bin folder
Select the FontMaker icon – this will allow you to view the roughly fifty fonts inside of the program.
Select one of them – change the size to 48 or 40 or 32 – where you see test type in VinerHand32 and then press the generate button.
This will create a file in the same directory called VinerHand32.pft
Copy this file into your Mod \ Graphics \ Fonts – folder
This will be used by the program instead of the default VinerHand32 file.
Check the top of the page for all of the ones that resemble the time period.
Hope this Helps:

Re: Controls2 - Fonts - Courier
Thanks. I wasn't going to figure that out anytime soon.
Now, once you're done with that you can add the folds and the rippling animation, Plus you have to have the sound effects as well. And you need to blot the text here and there because they used quill pens, didn't they? How about the message comes folded with sealing wax and you see the hand opening it? I could go on all night...

Re: Controls2 - Fonts - Courier
born2see - I forgot to mention this - after you select your Font - if you think that it is showing the letters too large - you can change the size of the letters in the gamefonts.csv file.
Example
MsgFont,MsgFont,VinerHand32.pft,0.8
The default is a 1 - but I changed mine to a 0.8 - which will reduce the Font size by twenty percent in all of the messages.
Just Copy the gamefonts from the SDK into your Mods \ Logistic - folder.

With your energy - I'm sure that you will know more about modding than I do pretty soon.Thanks. I wasn't going to figure that out anytime soon.
Hey, as of now I'm going to forget about any other Font and concentrate on this one - it looks real to me, sometimes I have to read it several times to understand it, I'm sure that happened a lot back then.
Also - need to figure out why it is over-writing your screen - some of the values has to be in-correct while using that resolution. So, a lot more testing is in store.

Re: Controls2 - Fonts - Courier
This mod stuff is great! I just had an idea for a keyboard mod for those of us who don't have a Numpad. Not sure if I'll get around to it anytime soon because I'm trying to work on my gaming skills. If you're interested I'll turn it over. I've already made some changes for me but at this stage it's not something you would want to turn loose on the general user population. If it was done right it would work for Stock and User scenarios.
Thanks for letting me get involved in the process. It really is cool.

I'll be happy to work on the text over-write since I can reproduce the problem. No real work until Tuesday so I'll have the time.

Re: Controls2 - Fonts - Courier
It might have something to do with the scroll buttons – maybe those values are wrong, I can't seem to figure this out, or it might be that there are no values in the button below the scroll listings.I'll be happy to work on the text over-write since I can reproduce the problem. No real work until Tuesday so I'll have the time.
Look at the gscreens file, and you will see what I'm talking about.
This weekend, I'm going to try to concentrate on adding a different name font instead of the default name of VinerHand32, and see if I can get it to work.
If successful, this would solve the problem with the courier screen over-writing, by using a different font for the courier messages, and using the default font for the courier screen.
Yes, the game is very moddable – and it good that you have tackled this at such an early stage of joining the forum.
Answer to the above question – I'm using a desktop – so trying to amend the files to work with a laptop wouldn't work on my end, I would nt be able to see if the results were working or not!
EDIT POST - Hey, looking at the picture that you posted above screen0014 - it looks like you need to move the text over to the right about 5 spaces and also move the text up about 10 spaces in the gscreens file.
Also - try reducing the size of the font by ten percent in the gamefonts file, as in the above example from my previous post. This might help with the cropping problem.

Re: Controls2 - Fonts - Courier
Reducing the size of the font to .75 worked for me. I would like to see a font with finer lines. This one looks like it was written with a felt-tip pen instead of a quill.
I found this which might be helpful. Unfortunately, the pictures didn't load for me. But you get the idea.
