This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Nulled Cannon Fire, Musket Fire, Explosions, and Cavalry Sound Edit. UPDATE: Just added a Full Nulled sound edit for all the sound files.

Post by Michael Slaunwhite »

Hi.

I noticed someone here asking about turning off or reducing the sound effects of battle. I only edited these for the cannon fire, Musket, explosions, and cavalry charges, etc. If you are looking for reducing the volume of the sounds, sorry I don't have the time to do this just yet, or you could buy a volume button. :)

If you are wanting specific sound edits, then ask, and I will see what I can do for you.

Instructions: Unzip the file into your mods folder. Activate the mod, and you will have no sounds for the items listed above, and in the header.

Hi.

For those who wish to have all the sounds nulled, then download this sound edit. Just unzip it into your mods directory.

I know that there will be those who will say just rename the sound directory, but I say NO don't do that. You have to remember that there are files which look for these files too be present, and there might be a conflict of some sort. Then again I'm not a programmer so it's up to you to decide.

Also make sure that this mod is the last to be activated.

Later.

Hi.

I tested the game with the sound edits I just did, and what a frame boost. I loaded a save game Army vs Army, and it just sped along. It's pretty amazing how many cycles are used for just producing sound. Now I don't know if this will speed things up for those who are running an independent sound card, but I can tell you things sped up for me because I run my sounds through the built in sound card on the motherboard.

I suspect that since MP performance is based on it's weakest link in most cases, I just thought maybe this could help reduce some lag, and free up some much needed compute cycles. Who knows it's worth a try I suppose.

Just thought this would be something some of you may be interested in knowing.

Later.

Thanks, very handy for me, when designing scenarios I need to run them fast to check scripting, cpu heats up bad, this should help a lot taking some load off.

Hi. Glad to hear that this edit could be put to good use.

I was also thinking that those who edit sound files can use this so that only their sound edits can be heard. All that has to be done is activate this mod, then activate the sound edits you might be working on. This way only your sounds will be heard so you can gauge it's effectiveness (immersion factor).

I have nulled allot of sounds for other games which really helped speed up the gameplay. What I have noticed that even though you turn off the music, the sound files are still loaded. Once you null them, the memory taken up is 1 byte per file, and reduces the strain on the cpu (Only tested with built in sound card on motherboard).

Anyway, take it easy.
