Turning my attention to OOB's, and VP locations.
Hi.
In a previous post I asked how many men, including commander is required to hold a VP location. Now since I'm starting to turn my attention to OOB's, and I have a couple of Questions...
1: Can I edit how many men is required to hold a VP location?
2: Can I hold VP locations with Cannon, and Commander WITHOUT having a regiment present?
My aim is to create a series of Beginner oob's. One such oob would have one regiment of 200 men, two cannon, one cavalry unit with 100 men, and one ammo wagon. This way I can keep it small, and make an all purpose oob without having to send the beginner into a tail spin with large masses of men to manage.
Just wondering. I know the oob can be made, but it's the numbers I am wondering about for holding a VP location.
Later.

Re: Turning my attention to OOB's, and VP locations.
Hi.
I don't really know how to describe my level of fatigue at the moment with trying to create an OOB. I'm frustrated, burned out, and down right wanting to smack the crap out of something.
I ave read the SDK docs on this, and it tells me very little in the way of trying to setup who has control of certain units. The docs tell me that Wadsworth has control of Meredith, and 19th Indiana, but that is all it tells me. Could someone please explain what 0 through 6 or up to 100 means for Brigade, Regiment etc?
I mean this is just confusing. I have taken a look at the Stock OOBS, and it looks easy enough until you start trying to figure out the numbering system in the OOB. I mean I understand the ARMY is either 1 or 2 to figure out what belongs to which side is about the easiest thing in the OOB which I understand. What in the hell does the number 0 mean?
So I tried using using Garniers OOB Editor, and I thought I saw light at the end of the tunnel when I was able to move units from other commanders to where I wished them to be listed...NOPE! I guess it kept the numbering system in place which is pretty much what I am having trouble with.
I'm at a loss at the moment. I'm not going to let this thing beat me, either I die, or the computer dies.... :woohoo:
Round one goes to the OOB, I shall see what tomorrow brings.

Hey, I admit that I have never been the brightest light in the classroom, but what does the OOB have to do with a VP location.I mean I understand the ARMY is either 1 or 2 to figure out what belongs to which side is about the easiest thing in the OOB which I understand. Also - did you miss this part of where ADukes directed you?
(Column 5) AI This determines who cares about this Objective. An Objective can be set up to be valid only for
either army, or only for the player, or for everyone. This will affect the AI, as the AI will not care about a “player
only” Objective. Values: “0”: player only, “1”: Union army, “2”: Confederate army, “100”: everyone.
(Column
Basically, are you sure that you are concentrating on the right file?

The reason why I was asking about the Victory Locations for the OOB is because I remember being told that it took a certain number of men, plus the commander to take, and hold on to a VP location. The OOB question is about how I wanted to create an OOB for Beginners which would allow them to command a much smaller force. I didn't want to create an OOB that only had 100 men when to hold a location VP location it would take say 400. I just wanted to get the numbers right so that the player would start off with enough troops to succeed.
I have read the Chapter ADukes posted which I understand. I just wanted to make sure I knew how to create an OOB first before starting off looking into map locations, and etc.
Cheers, and thanks Davinci.

Re: Turning my attention to OOB's, and VP locations.
Hi again.
I know I'm not explaining this properly because I just don't understand it. Here is where I am running into problems. It's where who commands who, and what do the numbers mean?
Here is a Pic.
As you can see, the area in red is what is confusing me. I do not understand what the number 1's, and 0's mean. I do understand thet 1=Union, and 2= Confederates, but the other numbers I find very confusing. For instance in the PDF file has a very small explanation below the picture, and here is what it says...

Forgive me for being so dim witted, but for some reason I am having a hard time grasping this.Row 1 This row contains the Header information. A brief explanation of each header term is shown in columns B and C, rows 4 to 18. Row A20 The first cell in this row must have the text “MASTER” and B20 must have the name of the OOB file from the OOBs directory. Starting in row 21 are the commander or unit listings. Column A (Name) This is the name of the unit or commander. It is “free” text that is not actually used in-game. Column B (ID) This is the game ID value for that unit or commander. This must be a unique value and must match exactly a value in the Master OOB file. This entry references the additional info found in that file about the unit or commander. Columns C–H These columns specify the hierarchy of the units or commanders listed in the file; that is, it specifies the command structure and shows who is allowed to give orders to whom. Side is “1” for Union or “2” for Confederate. Army is always “1” for both sides. Corps is a numerical value, as are Div, Bgde, and Reg. In this example Wadsworth is the division commander who can issue orders to Meredith and to the 19th Indiana. He cannot issue orders to Doubleday or Howard, who are corps and army commanders, respectively, in this scenario.
Cheers, and take care.

Major Gen Howard –
1 Union Army Side (1)
1 Highest Ranking – Commander of this side
0 – over this entire army – must be a (0)
0 – over this entire army – must be a (0)
0 – over this entire army – must be a (0)

Brig Gen Meredith
1 Union Army Side (1)

1 Belongs to the First Corps
1 Belongs to the First Div
1 Belongs to the First Brigade
0 Must be a (0) – due to the fact that he is the Brigade leader
I thought that you have modded OOB before?
BTW – 0/100 – I have no idea – numbers don’t go up that high, I never used them that high! – Team Member – will have to explain – probably a typo.

The only thing I have done with an OOB was change the names of the Commanders. I have never created an OOB before.
Okay, I think I got it. Boy I must be tired if I couldn't get something this simple.
Cheers, and thanks again Davinci.

Thank goodness for your revelation, your anguish was heard clear across the forum. :woohoo:
I think we all were once cross eyed when we first saw an oob file, but after you study it for a while, it becomes quite clear and simple.
You really don't have to mess with an oob to show limited units. A simple battlescript can easily hide and show any unit in the oob that you desire. And since your talking objective stuff also, your talking scenario design, not sandbox.
