Multiplayer Glitch?
Multiplayer Glitch?
Matty and Reb,
Been playing Multiplayer.
Found a very disturbing feature.
I assume when the multiplayer game is entered, All settings are to be fixed to be equal on all opposing computers. Especially visibility.
I was playing a co-op, then player vs player, and was disturbed to find I could see all my opponents and friendly troops, and they could only see troops only when visible. (blocked by terrain)
Their "option" settings were "normal"
Mine were "custom"
I went to the manual to adjust settings and the manual was not like the options shown... sooooo....
Something is off. I dont want to see my opponents, so why isnt that in custom?
The differences are of course thier own preferences, but when you hold "contests and tourneys" a player gains a huge advantage over others when he can see all, and they cannot.
These features should be locked at equal.
AND
I still find it odd as to why Flags of regiments are ALWAYS visible while the regiment is not.
If you are not visible, you are not visible!
At least Hide the flags when the regiment is prone. :S

Re: Multiplayer Glitch?
The map icon visibility is set by the host in the MP Options and will affect all other players joined to your game. If you had the Diff on Normal, Map Icons Display Level "All in Sight", then you should'nt have been able to see unfriendly troops unless they were of course in your LOS.. Maybe you had some long range cannons that could see the opposing troops? Only thing I can think of... Unless there's some sort of bug there, but I would have expected something obvious like that would have been reported by now..Matty and Reb,

About the flags; the reason you can still see them is because when people with slower computers lower their unit display distance setting, they still need to be able to see where a regiment is (hence the floating flag).
Re: Multiplayer Glitch?
Matt,
I tested that... (All in sight)
As sickles, I could scroll to all sections of the map and see EVERY confederate unit FULLY.
even units in woods, behind hills, and far away from nearest federals.
My fellow players, Humphreys and Birney, could ONLY see units nearby and with terrain restrictions.
If I see them, they should see them.
A reset of the game, I was Longstreet and could see ALL federal (including reverse slope of Cemetary ridge. As federal, Birney and Humphrey could see limited as before.
We discussed and tested.
I did NOT test setting my options to Normal (time restrictions). It seems that may confirm...
As stated, "Custom" setings are not as they are in manual. (A change I assume)
Flags - "slower systems" certainly are an issue. But, shouldn't this be an option for slower systems... a realism thing.
Oh... no matter what, I cannot, nor have I ever been able to connect direct IP. I am familiar with port forwarding, IP setup etc. But I cannot connect even internal to my network...
Only in lobby.
I am free next couple of hours if you want (and can test) Drop me an e-mail

Re: Multiplayer Glitch?
Follow up
Loaded Culps Hill MP (1 player)
Chose Newton (custom setting) (All in Sight)
Could see ALL rebels
exit
Reloaded Culps Hill MP
Chose Greene (normal Setting)
Could see ALL rebels
There is NO WAY in that scenario I should see all rebels
I have main game set to normal....
In reply to your statement that "...it should have been spotted." Well,
I have MPed many times and never thought of it until mentioned by others.
we use skype, so everything is vocal.
We assume it is working correctly, and that some unit MUST be spotting it.
AND, no-one can see the others screen...

Re: Multiplayer Glitch?
Yeah there's something strange going on. I can confirm that "All In Sight" shows all units, both sides no matter what level commander you choose (at least for the host). We'll look into it. Thanks for the report Mark.

Re: Multiplayer Glitch?
MP is best played with the blank map.

I have the opposite of this problem. I cannot join through the lobby. I can get in the lobby and enter rooms, but i never make it through the launch to staging. I figured it was just something that would fix itself ,but i've been playing MP for 4 months now regularly and can only join games by IP.

Stu,
Been doing this for years... Funny how it all works.
The lobby can have its moments of aggrivation. Sometimes I have to reset to enter.
But I always fail IP.
That said, when I am in It is very stable. A very god job cosidering all that goes on.

Re: Multiplayer Glitch?
Mark - Good news. This LOS MP bug was a result of the other LOS bug you reported. We just tested last night and it's fixed.. Thanks again for reporting both bugs.
It'll be in the 1.3 micropatch to be released very soon.
