Suggestions on getting TC2M to run on new machine

Here you can talk about whatever floats your boat. Your favorite movie, sports team, etc. If it's a little racey, I suggest you post in R&R, otherwise we'll move it for you.

Suggestions on getting TC2M to run on new machine

Post by garyknowz »

Hi folks!

I posted this at MMG website too, but thought I'd post it here as well hoping to cast a net. Hopefully someone more tech savvy than me (an easy challenge) will have some pointers.

I've been a happy owner of TC2M since I pre-ordered it in 2006. I love the game, and was the first TC2M general. But I'm faced with a sad conundrum. My old PC finally died and I bought a new one with Window 7 Pro 64 bit. As a result, I have not been able to play this awesome game, nor any of the fantastic mods that have been created for it since.

I'm looking for any suggestions on trying to get the game running again. Here's what I've already tried: running and installing as administrator, and bypassing the auto play by installing via the setup command in the game folder. I've tried different combinations of Window 7 XP compatibility mode, and service packs (suggested in another thread). Patch 3 has also been installed. I've also deleted several video and audio files, which helped, but not resolve all of the issues.

The main error I receive is random CTD with error message "War3d real-time game engine my Norb Timpko has stopped running". I get the same CTD message anytime I hit the in-game OOB icon. Lastly, at the expiration of every scenario, the game freezes. The only option is Ctl+Atl+Del and closing the game (I get the same message once closed).

Does anyone have any suggestions to get the game running? Should I install Window XP on a partition or external and play the game that way? Or is my only hope to buy a new-old PC and play it on that? Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

Special thanks to Chonaman (at MMG) whose been helping me get this issue resolved.

Cheers!
Gary Knowlton

Sorry. I suffer from a serious case of typosis. Don't worry, it's not contagious :)

I posted this on the TC2M forum also. I bought a hard drive "bay". costs just $18.00. You load an operating system on the inserted drive. And you can interchange drives all you want. As long as you use your computer to load operating systems on each hard drive you get. So I'm hoping that it is that easy to just take the hard drive out of your new computer and insert a blank hard drive and down load an xp operating system and use it. It works great on my computer right now. But I'm anly using xp right now but will up grade to windows 7 soon.
