Parker:
Me:Honestly, they do actually take a bit of time to get standing as is, especially if you purposefully issue the order yourself. If you let the AI handle it, the unit is usually up as a single man, basically. It's actually somewhat annoying to have to sit and wait for every last man to stand up and get in line while under fire, but perhaps that was intentional to simulate the effect you're talking about.
Beef:I just tested it and as far as I can tell, it doesn't matter if you click "stand up" yourself or un-TC the regiment and let the AI do it -- the speed is the same. The only factor is the unit's experience level. 4, or maybe 5, or greater stand up instantly. This can be modded, so if we wanted laying down to be more risky, we could.
no way, getting up takes way to long as it is .if it took the union that long to stand up for picketts charge they would have been overrun . why is there a risk involved with laying down? is it to balance some aspect of the game?
Me again:
If there's no time spent getting back up, there's never a reason not to lay down when you're not shooting. When there's something you should always do without thinking, but it takes effort (clicking) to do, I consider it bad gameplay. There should be some reason not to lay down, so the decision can take some thought.
Currently, regiments at 2 or 3 experience take a while to get up, while 4s stand up instantly. I think there definitely should be some delay for 4s and up to remove the issue I just mentioned. Whether 2s and 3s should be faster or slower or stay the same, I don't know. Making them stand up slower but rest faster while laying down makes the tactic of moving away from the front, resting, and returning more worthwhile. Depends if people prefer that to just laying down at the front.
