Island WAR 2011 Revision 2.9 by TemplarGFX
Man, I don't normally whoop about an addon, but for anyone who owns "Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising" had better get on board for this one incredible addon called Island Wars 2011 (patch game to latest version).
You are not alone, the more areas which are taken, more allied troops will spawn, and vice versa for the enemy. Expect sometimes very heavy resistance because the enemy is trying to do the exact same thing you are...Also remember the enemy will not take too kindly to you taking any location, they will try to take it back (you will never know how many will counter attack)...This is a True Dynamic game, and you will be actually blown away by it.
This addon has all other addons beat, and has brought back what so many (and myself) have been clamoring for since the dawn of First Person Shooters. You have 96 points on an island to wrestle with the enemy, and this is not a run over the enemy type of thing. The enemies are battle hardened troops, and very smart A.I. makes this a real treat for those like myself who love a great battle. I just can't explain this properly because I just finished up having a kick ass fight trying to take a tower, and man it isn't easy.
This is NOT a scripted Addon it's fully dynamic (the way all fps shooters should be)...Believe me this will eat the hours away....the island is Hugh!

Anyway I have warned you....

It's primarily for Single Player. I have read that you can play this Addon in Multiplayer but I could have dreamt that since I still dream of SOWgb after I have put in 9 straight hours of game time. :blink:Mike - SP or MP?

I can't play it on my laptop. I'm getting 3 FPS. It's a slide show.

I was interested in Dragon Rising because I liked Flashpoint. However, I lost interest the moment the dev's told that although the island is huge the scenario is always restricted to a small rectangle and the amount of entities on the map is low.
Arma2 all the way. Did you know there's a free 2 play version these days?

Yeah I have Arma2, and I agree it's one hell of a game. Too bad about you passing up on OFDR because this mod opens up the entire island, and the whole war is NOT scripted as the stock missions. It's totally dynamic world with this MOD.
Allot of people did pull away from the game (lost interest), but many people are beginning to see that with this mod installed, it has created a whole new world, and they have started to return to it just because of this mod. Templar really has done one hell of a job...
You have to give it a read...
You did make the right choice on Arma2, nothing better out there. OFDR on the other hand with this mod has opened up a whole new world. The A.I has been vastly improved, and with Island Wars 2011, there have been some really great additions such as upping the limit of entities, better graphics, and the list just grows...
If you do happen to ever get the game, trust me get the addon, you will not regret it one bit.
Cheers...

Sorry to hear that B. Have you tried it on a desktop yet? I'm not sure if laptops are even recommended. You do need somewhat of a beefy system to run, the fortunate part though it's far from the meat eater like Arma2. Now that turd really needs a kick arse system to run...
If you ever do get it to run OFDR with mod, let me know will ya?
Cheers...

Arma2 is definitely a resource hog. I'm not sure if there is a system out there that can run it comfortably on max settings with a lot going on. Still, I've managed to create engagements which are quite too big to be realistic in modern warfare. Hundreds of soldiers dashing across open fields in enemy fire might look cool but in the real world I think they wizened up around a hundred years after Longstreet said it was a bad idea.
Anyways, I think they did that level size / entity amount chokehold on dragon rising mainly because the consoles couldn't run anything bigger and the devs didn't bother giving the pc players the experience they were promised. A pox on them! I looked at the fallout on the forums after launch and it was pretty much the worst wave of post launch complaints I've ever seen. And there always is a wave of post launch complaints no matter what the game is like.
At the moment, I get my milsim fix on Arma2 and I think giving money to codemasters so I can play some clever mod someone has made for free isn't right.

NOTE: Now with that said though, after applying patch 1.03 (beta) it has fixed a few problems, and has allowed you to add mods. I have to say though, if you ever do happen to find the game for $9.00 dollars, snap it up because after you apply the mod I mentioned above with a few of it's tweaks, believe me it's worth the cash (9 dollars).
Cheers!
I'm with you on that, I have done that myself creating large battles that were just insane. I really enjoy that they have decided to keep the same editor as OFP, I got very use to the way you can script just about anything.Arma2 is definitely a resource hog. You are absolutely right, they did manage to muck this game up. I still don't like the way they setup their command structure. In my opinion they should not have named this Operation Flashpoint since it has nothing really that OFP has...I found it odd. The editor is well not all that great, but I do happen to like the combat AFTER you apply a few tweaks because for some odd reason playing the vanilla setup just kills you. The A.I had a accuracy of 100 percent while in combat which made even the easy difficulty level seem like you were playing the level of harden troops.I think they did that level size / entity amount chokehold on dragon rising mainly because the consoles couldn't run anything bigger and the devs didn't bother giving the pc players the experience they were promised.

I do understand where you are coming from, but in today's world you can't expect out of the box kick arse entertainment like we did when you plopped out 30 dollars for a few 5.1/4's. For instance, SOWgb itself had quite a few problems, but once they got the bugs worked on it's now well worth the money. I have found that some games can be not all that stellar in the beginning, but MODS can revive a dead title (considered crap in the beginning). I personally have come across that, and the free mod made by Templar has done this for OFDR, it has brought back a few people who tossed the title early on. I never give up on a title, I have learned that there are those out there who see the potential of a game, and they are the ones who bring it back to life by making these mods. Hell, I still have Quake, and Doom on my system because I love the mods that have been made for them.I think giving money to codemasters so I can play some clever mod someone has made for free isn't right.
COOL! Have you installed the ACEX series mods for Arma2 yet? JUST INCREDIBLE! You want realism, man you will get it from those mods!!! I love Arma2.... (monster system required). At the moment, I get my milsim fix on Arma2
Cheers!
