Re: How did you hear about Scourge of War Gettysburg?
It's really sad to hear this. I have been on the Game lobby for the last hour or so, and two people were playing a game, another showed up about 15 or so minutes ago, and he left...okay he is back 911truth...Sorry, Mike. The SOW game lobby was never really much of a gathering point.
It's strange. I think quite a few left because the game was very unreliable for a long while. But a few months ago we had 18-20 people on every evening. And now that Norb has really improved reliability (we hardly ever crash anymore), we're lucky to get 8 players together for a game.
I only wish I had a faster connection, I would have helped more.
Cheers...

Jack - My office was in Sunnyvale until recently. Right off Mathilda. I'm Bay Area born and raised. It's a small world.
I haven't been to Kearney park but I believe there's a reenactment there coming up in October which I'm going to attend.

Goddarn. You must really like Norb to put yourself through all that...for a computer game. Do they pay you or do you do it for free?Yes......well......my sanity went out the door in a hand basket LONG before Norb brought me on as a tester.
God darn. Holy testicles. All them people.

Re: How did you hear about Scourge of War Gettysburg?
As far a MP play is concerned it was really booming just a few months ago and there was some frustration with games crashes, but Norb made some improvements for the better. This is early fall and many people are getting ready for school or getting settled into classes or are taking the last vacations before winter or enjoying the outside before winter. Things will pick up again.
For the most part the mp community is helpful and not domineering. Many players try us out like it, but don't come around much. There are not many negative experiences. Of course, I could be wrong. It can be hard to find the time to play. I myself may play 1 or 2 mp games a week.
The game lobby was never a good place for the mp community. Biggest problem was once in there that was it. The computer was tied up. No one wants to sit in a room wondering when a game might be played. Teamspeak has really helped the mp community.
Still a problem is that not all players can host. I think one fourth of mp players can host. If that.
I am sure there are groups of players who are friends, etc. who we never see come through the lobby. There have been players from Germany who want to play mp, but cannot play with us much because they have to sleep. There could be a whole German community if the knowledge of this game was able to get out.
The game still needs more exposure.

Born,
Fuckin' A! I live off of Mary and California. Really small world. The Kearny Park Event is usually hosted by The NCWA, (my old group - the National Civil War Association). There should be hundreds of reenactors there but with the economy, it is hard to say. At one point I was the Major commanding the Federal Infantry Battalion in that organization, but that was a while ago. Good outfit at the time. There should be 3 seperate organzations there. Hope it is a good one for you.

Jack,
I'm really looking forward to going. I've never seen one before. My friend's friend's son is a reenactor(if that's the right term)and has been doing them for some time. During one of the Team meetings we were talking about the amount of smoke during a battle and a couple of guys said you can't really imagine it until you've watched a reenactment. I think it's October 22. She's going to let me know.
I have to say I miss the Bay Area weather. Madera is a hell hole. Average temp is 98 degrees for July, August and September and the air quality is terrible because of all the agriculture. If it weren't for irrigation this would be a desert.
I may have an opportunity to move back soon and if it works out I'll take it in a heartbeat.
It's good to know there are some West Coast people on the board.

Re: How did you hear about Scourge of War Gettysburg?
I would say that if I didn't know about this forum and stumbled upon the game and tried to play it online I would have been discouraged by the lack of activity in the game lobby. I don't think that alone would cause the lack of mp success but it certainly has a factor...
I don't check the forums for most games I purchase and I am sure many people are the same. How many people got SOWG and stopped playing because they played their enjoyment out of the single player and tried MP but the lack of activity in the lobby's caused them to move onto something else? They then may miss out on Pipe Creek and future releases because they no longer follow the game... The answer is more than 0.

I've been following Norb's engine since 2003 I believe---on the first MMG website before the release of CWBR. SO finding SoW was pretty elementary.
Jack, I've been to Kearney Park a couple times with two independent reenacting groups, 6th U.S. Co G, and 7th Virginia, Co D back in the early 2000s. It used to approach a couple thousand reenactors if I recall, but the hobby's run into tough weather lately. I know because the Camp Chase Gazette literally called me every week until I resubscribed last year.

Sorry. I suffer from a serious case of typosis. Don't worry, it's not contagious
