The Kansas/ECF Map from GCM...

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

The Kansas/ECF Map from GCM...

Post by Jack ONeill »

All,

Is anyone else using the GCM Kansas/ECF map as a regular SP game map? I have been for a large number of battles now and really like it. It has become my default "Shiloh" map as it reminds me, (sort of), the Shiloh map from TC2M. Like DaVinci's and mine modded Kansas map, it has a Western Theater feel to it. I have tried various ways to make it a mod so I don't have to move the files around when I want to use the "Real" Kansas map, but am missing something and can't figure it out.

He whom name changes with the wind - I'm still not sure how the mod is changing your files.

Can you check the map section when you start your game and see if there are more than one Kansas Map showing.

If there are more than one - click on each one of them and post back what happens!

DaV,

No, there is only one Kansas map in Sandbox. The Mod replaces the primary,(stock), Kansas files with modded ECF files that are NAMED Kansas. The stock Kansas files are then annotated with a .bak addition to show that they are still there as a backup. I will assume the modded ECF map is named Kansas so it won't replace the stock ECF map in MP. Most people don't use the stock Kansas map in MP so no big deal. My theory, anyway.

OK, so why can’t you place the three Kansas files into a mod before the game changes the names.

Kansas Folder \ Maps \ three files ( Kansas.bmp , Kansas.csv , Kansas_MM.dds )

Then when the Mod changes the names of the files – it will not change these files due to them being contained in a mod folder.

So when you want to play the original Kansas Map – just activate the mod folder from within the game.

DaV,

Nope. Didn't work. Came out an odd hybrid combination of the two, ECF and Kansas. Hmmmm.....

OK, so you are saying that you have a Kansas Mod that has a Maps folder, and inside of the Maps folder you have the following three files….
KS.bmp
KS_MM.dds
KS.csv

The Mod is activated – and the game is over-riding these files?

I do not understand how that would \ could happen!

DaV,

Yes, exactly. Not quite sure why that wouldn't work. I'm going to do a comparison of the files to see what's really different. Maybe overlooking something in the details.

Hey, Jack - the only reason think I can think of would be that G has written a program to change the mapname.lsl file.

That is the main file that loads the other files, along with the houses, fences, etc...

Now, I don't think that he would have done that, so the above post should have worked!

You may have mixed up the files when you placed them into the mod, which would explain the mixed combination of files that you had.
