Grass textures grayed out, please help

Hi, I'm new to the forum and looking for help with an issue. I received scourge of war Gettysburg for xmas and been having this problem. All the grass is grayed out, I can't see the hills or grass, the landscape is just flat and solid gray. My soldiers can be on a hill but I won't see it cause all the ground is flat and gray. But I can see the other things like buildings, trees, roads, fences, corn fields, ect. All the grass textures are missing and everything is flat and gray with a few trees and fields here and there. I'm using default settings, everything else in the game runs perfectly fine. My firewall and anti-virus is turned off and I'm using gamebooster. I really don't know what's wrong, I never had this problem with any game before. Please help! I'm using the vanilla version with no patches, Any questions please ask, I also emailed this problem to support and waiting for a response. I'm running it on a dell dimensions 3000, with a radeon 9250 and 1gb of ram. Everything runs smoothly except for this issue. Hopefully I can get help here as well. Thank you.

Which version exactly?
1gb of ram
1GB is below the system requirements and could be a problem.

Do you have the latest graphic card driver and DirectX version installed? Are there any entries in the SOWGB.log file (located in the Work subfolder)?

I just installed the game and I'm using the original version. Yes I have the latest version of the ati drivers and windows directx version 9.29.1974 ... I really don't think 1gb is an issue here because as soon as I click the sow desktop shortcut the game comes up in a second. I've played bigger games like medievil total war and it ran decently. This game runs lighting fast on my computer. Here is my SOWGB log file, the one with capitals not the other sowgb file in under cases and a orange gear...

Hi there Romefan,
Id have to unfortunately agree with the RAM issue that was mentioned.I Originally tried to install this software on an old machine i had with just 1 gig of RAM and unfortunatley had exactly the same issue as you describe.Reading your post is almost a flash back to when i had that happen.Sorry to be the bringer of woeful news but i think id start there before anywhere else.If you can upgrade to at least 2 Gigs of RAM i think you will be fine.On one of my machines i run this software with 2 gigs of RAM and it runs fine,although in big multiplayer battles with 70/80k in troops on the field it can occasionally "judder" some.I run it also on another machine with 4 gig of RAM however and it runs like a dream.Can run all the high end graphics features and large armies with no stutters at all.This makes me think that 1 gig just isnt enough.Im not at all qualified to give opinions on this matter but i think its worth a look.
By the way congratulations on your fine xmas gift.This software is very special and i think if you take the time and cost if possible to get your RAM upgraded then you will be VERY happy with the software that you finally get to use in all its glory :woohoo:

Bad news for you:
The 9250 is not 100% DirectX 9 compliant, because of the limited V1.4 pixel and vertex shaders. That's probably the reason why the game doesn't work.

That sucks, I didn't think this game needed that much ram. I just upgraded my ram this xmas to the 1 gb because that's what I could afford. I can still play it but I guess I won't see the grass or hills lol. I got it so me and my dad can play together online that's all I really wanted it for so it's cool I guess. But I will try to download a directx that's compatible with the radeon 9250 and see if that helps at all. Thanks for your help though.

Just deleted directx 9 and rebooted, when I tried to start the game it said I needed directx 9 or above. Guess I have to play it all grayed out :(...

Romefan, look at post #5. ram isn't the issue,you need a new video card that can support a full version of directx 9. i personally only have 1 gig of ram and have no problems single player or mp.

Rom,

I had the same issue with my old comp. You'll need a 512 Vid Card just to get going. Then more RAM. Good Luck.
