Ok I'm trying to play courier game and I'm a Brigade commander (Anderson confederate side). But, when I send a movement order to one of my regiments leader(s) only the leader moves and the rest of the units just stand there? Why? Now I know I can just click on the unit flag and give an order to move the entire unit, but, I want to do it courier wise. Is this not possible down at the regiment level?
Also, I do have the chain of command down right?
Army
Corp
Division
Brigades
Regiments?
and at the tactical level?
Companies
Platoons
Squads?
I always did have problems getting those in the right order and where does Battallion fit in now? I notice WW2 games have battallions.
Issuing orders to regiments....what am I doing wrong?

As a general rule, Battalion = Brigade for ACW units.
War is cruelty. There is no use trying to reform it. The crueler it is, the sooner it will be over.

I'm assuming you've made a mistake in and meant that you are a division commander trying to move a brigade. If you are using the 'move to map location' command you must also specify a formation for that unit to assume in the same order. Otherwise, only the commander will move. Go to the HITS sub forum and you'll find answers to your courier questions.Ok I'm trying to play courier game and I'm a Brigade commander (Anderson confederate side). Re: Issuing orders to regiments....what am I doing wrong?
An observation and a question regarding the flag mods in the Sharpsburg scenarios.
Observation: VA flag is incomplete with the prostrate body under the blood dripping sword.
Question: To the best of my info, the Confederate artillery did not have swallow tail flags; rather they carried the traditional battle flag, usually smaller, just as the infantry and cavalry did. Interestingly, the "Arms and Equipment of the Confederacy" show photos of M/G Bradley Johnson's Maryland Brigade swallow or forktailde, guidon and General Samuel French's Army of Tennesee divisional swallow tail flag.
Hope this is helpful in correcting the flag mod.
Thanks
Jack

Re: Issuing orders to regiments....what am I doing wrong?
All,
Shirkon - No. A Battalion in SOWGB does not equal a Brigade. In the Game a Battalion and a Regiment are almost the same thing. American Volunteer Regiments on both sides were made up of 1 Battalion of 10 companies. These could be sub-divided into smaller 'battalions" by the regimental Commander, for tactical purposes on the field. If one reads the Drill manuels of the time, (Hardees', etc.), you will find all tactical manuvering is done by command of Battalions, not Regiments. Example - the Colonel commanding tells the XO to form the Regiment. The XO carries this command out with a call to "form the Battalion!" on the parade green or wherever.
The only units at this time to have more than one official Battalions were the U.S. Army Regular Regiments, they having 2 Battalions of 8 Companies each.
Brigades at this time were formed of however many regiments (i.e: 3,4 or 5).

Re: Issuing orders to regiments....what am I doing wrong?
Ok that was what I was doing wrong or not doing rather. Thanks a bunch. I guess I thought A.P. Hill was a Division commander under Longstreet is why I thought Anderson was a Brigade Commander and the ones under him were regiment commanders? Told you I had issues with chain of command. lol I got it down now.kellysheroes wrote:I'm assuming you've made a mistake in and meant that you are a division commander trying to move a brigade. Also, thanks to Jack for the lesson on Battallions during the civil war.

Kelly,
Your welcome. But, say not a lesson as much as it is merely information.
