Game won't run. Keeps crashing. Hopefully we won't get any posts here, but if we do, we'll try to help you out. You can also post any bugs that you find here. IMPORTANT: Don't post mod related problems here!
This is great, lol. The other day Seal was column charging the left of my line. He brought his whole brigade up against my one right regiment and thoroughly trashed it. I saw him doing it and double timed my reserve brigade to deal with him. They didn't get their in time to save my lone regiment, but did get there and I immediately ordered lines and charge! Now it is difficult to column charge (I never have done it) because the closest regiments will charge and the rest will stop and then Seal will thoroughly trash those charging regiments. Well I just kept hitting the charge button to keep the troops engaged and in melee. I guess Seal got a dose of his own medicine because he was thoroughly trashed. I thought he was tired out from running so far, but maybe it was this bug.
Recently, he has been trying to employ more historical and honorable methods, but has since returned to his old ways of column charging. I am really tiring of this column charge business.
Jack MP is for the most part a good group of guys and this bug is not widely known or used. There is no problem with playing MP even now.
Seal hasn't used this in a game, NY Cav. He rarely hits the charge button. He gets his brigade belt buckle to belt buckle and lets them auto-charge.
In fact, as a sort of test, Garnier told him he wanted to test something and then charged to melee and routed most of Seal's division by using the melee bug.
Seal came back into the room and said, "Man. . . Garnier is still the best player around."
This definitely works, and it is fantastic (I just tested it out on Cleburne). I only wish I had known about it when nobody else did. Now, until there is a remedy, fighting hand to hand will be a double edged sword.
Until this is fixed, there is no way we can gentlemanly agree not to use this - kind of like charging in column formation. It should be up to the charger to decide whether or not he wants to take the risk of charging an opponent who could potentially know exactly the same thing that he does.
Am well aware of the general caliber of players in MP. Not the issue. There is ALWAYS someone, maybe an FNG, who wants to try something to gain an edge.

Don't think this will have any bearing on the MP group that i play with at all. The guys that play the 7 p.m. EST GCM MP game are all stand-up, straight shooting guys. Besides, they're all strategically and tactically sound enough to win without ever "fixing bayonets".
LMAO!! Really...?
I'm ALL for using a charge in assault columns to get an edge if it makes sense tactically with regards to the strategic picture. The bayonet is an offensive weapon. But now I have to be very weary of getting close to enemy troops because I won't know if the player I'm up against will exploit this rather large hole in the engine (which I'm shocked even exists with the proclaimed level of play testing done). Seal is right, there is no "gentleman's agreement" to this.
It needs to get fixed.
"I propose to fight it out on this line if it takes all summer."
"If you see the President, tell him from me that whatever happens there will be no turning back."

This game has been out for a number of years now, with people playing it in SP and MP daily, and the bug has only surfaced now - so that should show you how tough it was to spot.
Can't blame the test team for not finding it if we ourselves didn't for this long -- we've collectively spent far more time playing. It may be helpful to know what patch introduced it if it wasn't there always. I tested version 1.3 and the bug was there.

You, Seal, are officially banned from GCM games until the bug is fixed, at least the ones I host.

Now that Seal knows about it he is actively going to look to employ it. I can imagine the next new guy that we have join our MP community will show up and Seal will single him out and fall on him leaving nothing left. For Seal this will be great fun and we will lose another player.
Seal is a mediocre player at best and must use these tactics to get the wins that he is able to pull off.
I appreciate the work that this team puts in and the quality of game we have. I think they do a very good job.
