Just one more thing I'd like to see in the Commands menu....

ADVANCE to Firing range CONTACT: Which once a unit is within firing range of another enemy unit it will stop its advance and open fire.

I've noticed in some of my plays that when I put just a movement order in my units don't stop and fire once they enter combat range and that makes for some interesting changes of venue. It's like the enemy doesn't see them sometimes either when they are right on top of each other and whole lines will turn backwards to face them once they do. Now come on in open field battle this would never happen.....would it?

Now just so you know where this is happening it's in the "Sandbox" mode of play since that is all I ever play. I like random and whatif games and outcomes so that's why I prefer Sandbox and if this change/addition is possible that would be great. thanx. ;)
BTW The Wargamer suks nowadays. :) They still talkin bout you Norb. Same ole fools and retards like Son of Montfort and Jarhead and most especially Gusington.

Well. . . I don't play single player, but in MP games, regiments which are not TC'd will stop and start firing when they move into range.

Regiments will always stop to fire once they are fired upon and in range of the enemy unless you order them otherwise. If you order a regiment to move towards the enemy, they will move until they are in range and open fire.

All,

Kelly has a point. I have seen exactly what he describes many times. I'll order an un-TC'd unit forward to engage and there has been an almost 50% chance it will keep going after it enters firing range. I realize that periodically the unit will keep going to find a better firing position, but sometimes it doesn't seem that is the case. Not a bi problem, just a little unusual.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but RB's 'Bugles and flags' mod has an 'Attack March' button that does just what you want.

They're going in on hi-heels? Sorry Jack, I couldn't resist taking advantage of the typo.

I think it's a nice feature. It occurs because the brigade AI is trying to spread the regiments out and gain a tactical advantage. That often means moving closer than max firing range. I suppose we could also imagine it happening because the battlefield is full of smoke and two units may pass close to each other without realizing it. Whatever the reason, I like the dynamism of it all. There is nothing more boring than watching the two sides line up at 158 yd. and start blazing away, IMHO.
I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.

Agreed - happens in totalwar all the time. Both units line up at extreme musket range and chip away slowly at each other.
