Sand box mod question

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Sand box mod question

Post by Hunter »

Hello all.

What I am wondering is if you can mod the sand box games so that your entire army/corps starts in a random corner of the map (and the opposition like wise).

That way you have to march your troops into battle and not have the two sides start on top of each other?

Any suggestions?

Yes, that would be the "Hunt them Down" setting in Sandbox. Either with or without Objectives. You may have to start over a few times before you get your Army/Side where you want them.

Well...the problem is you don't actually start in a corner, you start in a linear formation NEAR a corner. That is why you cannot play an army level sandbox game because your armies start the game overlapped.

What I am looking for is a way to start sandbox with your entire army at one coordinate and march them forward as necessary.

I modded a scenario to do this, but I have no idea how to get sandbox to do it, or if it is even possible!

Since the Armies are so large, it's hard to get an Army setup without overlap. This is something we've known about for a while, and a fix is still a work in progress. For now, make sure you are using a large map for Army level. The large maps are: all four maps in the Antietam Pack, Gettysburg, Alpine, and all three Pipe Creek maps.

Even with a large map you may still get overlap, so just re-load Sandbox until you don't.

I remember this never being an issue in TC2M, so I think it's something to do with how scattered the troops are to start off. They take up so much room that they overlap each other.

Good point. Thanks, and we'll probably look into how they were setup for TC2M when we address this again.

Sorry, but this is wrong. It is still an issue in TC2M with full army OOBs.

On the large maps, the two opposing armies will never overlap in Hunt Them Down mode. That will only occur on the 4 smaller G'burg maps.
I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.
