Antietam-11 hours

Post by william1993 »

I fought this morning the first part of the full 11 hours Antietam scenario. Firstly, I moved up artillery, and advanced Douglass, Ripley, Walker, Wofford, Colquitt, JR Jones' Division to the cornfield, east, and west woods. I put Evander Law's brigade on the far left flank. And I put Jubal Early's brigade on the far flank in a long battle line.

The Union attacked, the slaughter began. A few regiments on both sides were routed/captured. Walker, Wofford, Ripley together pushed Seymour's Pennsylvania Reserves out of the woods slowly. Douglass' brigade was shot apart in the wheatfield, but JR Jones, and Law's men held on and blooded the Iron brigade.

Then it came! Counterstroke! Jubal Early's men came down directly on the flank and rear of Marsena Patrick and The Iron brigade. Fitzhugh Lee's cavalry swept down on the rear as well and cleared the Cornfield, devastating and capturing many units. Phase 2 of the morning action is about to begin.
God darn. Holy testicles. All them people.

Second part morning action:

The cornfield lines have stabliized, remaining troops are entrenched, ammunition brought up.

Two masterstrokes: 3 batteries of Union artillery were in the cornfield. Wade Hampton's cavalry brigade snapped them up, and routs the 2nd US Sharpshooters and the Iron Brigade's 6th Wisconsin.

Over on the Sharpsburg/bridge front, there were 3 batteries of 20 pounder Parrotts firing on our positions by the town. Munford's brigade crept over the bridge by Sharpsburg-East, got right up under the three batteries and dismounted where they could not be spotted, rested, then they charged the battery. Continuing on, they captured the other two batteries. This army has just gained 12 20 pounder rifled artillery.

Cavalry: Good for capturing ammunition wagons and artillery. That is all.

EDIT: The brigades of Mahone, Armistead, and Cobb(Sanders) after being preceded by an hour of artillery barrage, drove the Kanawaha division away from Snavely's Ford. Sherill's brigade was routed.
