Coping game folder

Game won't run. Keeps crashing. Hopefully we won't get any posts here, but if we do, we'll try to help you out. You can also post any bugs that you find here. IMPORTANT: Don't post mod related problems here!

Coping game folder

Post by Ernie »

Hi Fellows,

I looked through the forum for the answer to this question, but I could not find it. The question is, that once Gettysburg is install on your system and activated, can you make a copy of the game folder and play the game from there. I know that you can do it with TCM2, but I was hesitant to try it with this game because I didn't know if it would mess up the activate/deactivate system.

Thank you,

Ernie

You cannot and there's no reason to do it.

Hi ADukes,

Thank you for your response. The reason I asked the question is that I am using Windows 7, and as you know, there have be some minor issues using it. I came across one of these minor issues using the Modifications folder. I have both SOW Gettysburg and Antietam installed on my PC, and everything runs great. Recently I moved the "Road to Wargram" mod into the Modifications folder to play that mod. No problem. However, when I went back to play both of the original SOW games, the Wargram intro screens remain. I made sure that the Wargram mod was unchecked, so that was not the problem. The only way I could get rid of the Wargram intro screens was to delete the mod from the Modifications folder. I think that this one of these Windows 7 issues, however, if others have noticed this, and you have come up with a solution, could you please post back.

Thank you,

Ernie

You would need to deactivate, then copy, then activate from the new location. It's not hard at all.

I'm not having that problem. I am running Windows 7 professional (all updates). I activate the Wagram mod, and I get the screenies, then I deactivate the mod, and the screenies are back to normal.

I don't what to tell you....works fine here.

Is the game installed to the Program Files folder?

In response to Norb's post #4

What I was trying to do here Norb, is launch the game from an external hard drive. If the user created modes for SOW ever gets as many as those created for TCM2, they will use up a lot of HD space in the Modifications folder. By using a dedicated game folder on my external HD, I can load it up with modes, and never increase the use of HD space on my main frame beyond the initial install of the game. I tested it, and the game can be launched from the external HD. I have done this before for all of my WNLB, ANGV and TCM2 games.

In response to ADukes' post #6

My game is installed at C:NorbSoftDev and not in the Program files folder.

In response to Michael's post #5

Michael, I am also running W7 Professional, and I keep it updated.

It could work if you deactivate it where it is, then install on the external drive and activate it there. I'm curious if it all works out ok. Let us know.

In response to Norb's post #8

Hi Norb - I ran several tests that may interest you. Rather than tie up the "Help" section of the forum, if you give me an email address to contact you, I will contact you with the results. If you would rather do it through the forum, I can do it that way.

Please let me know,

Ernie
