I call my Jack Russell, Little Big Man. Another fine western classic and a fav.

Dustin Hoffman was good, but Richard Mulligan stole the show, imho, as General Custer thou.
Nothing in this world is more surprising than the attack without mercy!
A Custer decision impetuous? GRANT called me impetuous, too, the drunkard, sitting there in the White House, calling ME impetuous!
Your miserable life is not worth the reversal of a Custer decision.
And one of the best scenes in the movie...
Jack Crabb: General, you go down there.

General Custer: You're advising me to go into the Coulee?

Jack Crabb: Yes sir.

General Custer: There are no Indians there, I suppose.

Jack Crabb: I didn't say that. There are thousands of Indians down there. And when they get done with you, there won't be nothing left but a greasy stain. This ain't the Washite River, General, and them ain't helpless women and children waiting for you. They're Cheyenne brave, and Sioux. You go down there, General, if you've got the nerve.

General Custer: Still trying to outsmart me, aren't you, mule-skinner. You want me to think that you don't want me to go down there, but the subtle truth is you really *don't* want me to go down there!
All in all a great movie and not something most would think Hoffman could pull off, a western.

On that same vein...I'll steal the floor and get the topic back on track with Trivia...

There is another actor that you wouldn't tag for a western guy, imho, who did a surprisingly excellent job. He said the following line...
You skin that smoke wagon and we'll see what happens!
Name the actor and the movie?

Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp - Tombstone

I have to add that Vall Kilmer as John 'Doc' Holliday was perhaps one of the FINEST performances I have ever seen! Worthy of an Oscar!

Johnny Ringo: Ain't any of you the guts to play for blood!!
Doc Holliday: I'm your huckleberry....that's just my game.

And who could ever forget the "wink" that started the gunfight at the OK Corral.....

Wyatt Earp: Oh My God.

100% to everything you said!:woohoo:

Your also old enough to remember Kurt Russell in all those stupid Disney G rated college movies or whatever they were. ;) That's whay I said surprising.

I personally think that was Val Kilmer's finest performance and stole every scene, with the perfect delivery for all those great lines...
Look, darlin', it's Johnny Ringo. Deadliest pistoleer since Wild Bill, they say. What do you think, darlin', should I hate him?
Why Kate, you're not wearing a bustle. How lewd.
Ike Clanton: What is that now? Twelve hands in a row? Holliday, son of a bitch, nobody's that lucky.

Doc Holliday: Why Ike, whatever do you mean? Maybe poker's just not your game Ike. I know! Let's have a spelling contest!
It appears my hypocrisy knows no bounds.
And of course you've already given the best, and most famous. B)

But let's not forget Sam Elliot, giving his usual fine performance and is always perfect as a cowboy. Dana Delany looked delicious, but her performance was a bit over done to me.

Overall a surprisingly great western and another modern classic of the genre.

Well done as always JC the floor goes back to it's rightful owner before I butted in....

Whoops, seem I'm late as usual...

The old man is the elder Pvt. James Francis Ryan - the actor was:

Harrison Young

A familiar character actor, Young has been on both the big and small screens. Credits include The Game, Saving Private Ryan, and The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle, which reunited the actor with Robert DeNiro (Young made an unaccredited appearance in the Scorsese-DeNiro classic Taxi Driver in 1973.) He also appeared in Children of the Corn IV: The Gathering, along side his House of 1000 Corpses co-star Karen Black.

Harrison Young Facts

Birthday April 23, 1936
Date of death July 3, 2005 (age 69)

Selected Filmography
Blade Runner
In the Shadow of the Moon
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

Since we've now switched the genre to WWII....

Name the movie and who said the following line from a 1970, star studded, WWII classic...
Sergeant, this bank's not gonna fall into the hands of the American army. It's gonna fall in our hands. You see, we're just a private enterprise operation.

I believe the movie is "Kelly's Hero's" and the line was said by Donald Sutherland.

Pretty good JC right movie wrong character. B)

An awesome movie, with a star studded cast, Clint Eastwood, Donald Sutherland, Telly Savalas, Don Rickles, Carol O'Conner, Gavin MacLeod.

The reason you picked Sutherland was he really stole the show with his depiction of the character "Oddball".
Always with the negative waves Moriarty, always with the negative waves.
Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?
Crazy... I mean like, so many positive waves... maybe we can't lose, you're on!
And my favorite as the movie is climaxing...
Oddball: Hi, man.

Big Joe: What are you doing?

Oddball: I'm drinking wine and eating cheese, and catching some rays, you know.

Big Joe: What's happening?

Oddball: Well, the tank's broke and they're trying to fix it.

Big Joe: Well, then, why the hell aren't you up there helping them?

Oddball: [chuckles] I only ride 'em, I don't know what makes 'em work.

Big Joe: Christ!

Oddball: Definitely an antisocial type. Woof, woof, woof! That's my other dog imitation.
