Map files are all those files that make up a map. There's ini files, csv files, lsl files. A bunch of files that define a map. Somewhere there is a mismatch and that would prevent you from being able to play. We've seen this a lot ourselves as we are always working on some version of the game so when we come together we've got to make sure all our files match up.

That's what I thought, but, well, it turned out to be a mini-map mod I was using. I disabled the mod and the game then ran okay. I'm realy not sure what was going on, but the 'map mismatch' error in the log files went away after I disabled a map screen mod. *shrugs*

I still don't begin to understand what this means, how it can happen, how a player can self-diagnose this or what can be done to remedy it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First I would disable all mods and try. Always do this first because you cannot be sure that some mod is conflicting. If you still get the error, the only thing you can do is reinstall. But remember that you could be right and the server might be messed up. So make sure the server also tries disabling all mods first.

Another item I'm seeing in some games is "Unit Type Differs..." this means that the OOB that you are using is not correct. It could cause some problems. It's when you have a inf brig off in charge of arty, etc., there are certain unit types that go together and they could cause problems if you mix them.

That's interesting, would that stop the game? We had tried using some non-stock OOBs recently to generate balanced play. Are you able to go back to the person who sent in that logfile so we can identify which game/which OOB it was? Then we can fix it.

Thanks.

Apologies if I'm being slow, but I don't know what you mean, Norb, by "if you still get the error".

They show machines that just don't have all the latest files
is also still baffling me. I hope you don't mind me insisting, but this seems to be very important and I, for one, have no idea what it means!

Could someone please explain what latest files players do not have, how that can happen, how a player can self-diagnose this or what can be done to remedy it?

Such as: Error texture C:\MYCW\BASE\GRAPHICS\TOOLBAR\US_PORTRAITS_LVL5.DDS not big enough for defined frames.

on CoB4thTexas' and Martin's machines.

Exactly how does an error like that occur, it seems to be an incorrectly sized commander portrait - where in heck (excuse my language) could it have come from? And how can the player fix it?

It's part of the risk taken by using mods not made by NSD.

A fresh install, as Norb said earlier, should fix it.
