Control of Artillery Units in Hills Division, Antietam Hill to the Rescue Scenario
Control of Artillery Units in Hills Division, Antietam Hill to the Rescue Scenario
Hello.
First time playing this scenario and cannot control Artillery units of Hills Division in Batteries. I detach the battery commander, move him where I want him to land, select line for the battery and nothing happens. I can move select and move an individual gun. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for any advice in advance!
Walt

Wad,
I haven't played this one yet but it smells of a scenario on the Gettysburg side of things. I realize as a commander you are rather busy, but take the time to do a quick check to see if the guns are attached to the Battery Commander. I remember in a G'burg scenario I couldn't get the guns to move either. Turned out they were not attached. Try that and see. Luck!

wadortch,
TC the battery commander, move him where you to, and then click the 'line' formation and the guns will follow..

Thanks to you both. I believe I followed the procedure suggested by Chamberlain, will try that again and if they stay stuck, will check if they are detached, which makes sense since I can move individual guns.
Re: Control of Artillery Units in Hills Division, Antietam Hill to the Rescue Scenario
Hello again.
Tried both techniques--click on battery commander and move him to desired location-guns do not follow.
Checked that the guns were attached to the battery and then tried moving commander to desired location, ditto, guns did not follow. Experimented with whether the distance I was moving the battery commander might be influencing the matter--it did not. Moving the battery commander a short distance did not change the outcome.
Any other suggestions as to what I should try to get those guns where they are needed!
Thanks,
Walt

Why are you detaching the battery commander? Try this: do not detach the battery commander, just TC him and move him where you want and select the battery formation you want. Everybody should move. If they don't, there may be some bug in the scenario.
I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.

Yes, read Chamberlain's suggestion more carefully:Hello again.

Ordering the battery commander to move is just doing that, ordering him to move. You have to order his battery to move with him and you do this by specifying a unit formation; exactly like you would do it if you were an infantry brigade commander - you order the brigade commander to location X then order his regiments to form on him by specifying a formation.TC the battery commander, move him where you to, and then click the 'line' formation and the guns will follow.
You have to think in terms of the game's organisational levels; a battery commander in the game is the same 'rank' as a brigade commander and each gun is the same 'rank' as a regiment. You have to order the battery commander's 'brigade' around with him.
This thread might be better off in the command and staff school thread as well.

HITS & Couriers - a different and realistic way to play SoW MP.

It is what I have done. Click on the battery commander, move him, then click the line formation for the guns. They don't follow the leader.

I'm gonna have to play this one tonight and find out what is wrong here. Will report back. Will come in person. If I send a courier he may get lost or shot.
