Courier Pathing and Default Camera Questions

Post by NefariousKoel »

I have a couple pretty basic questions:

1) Is there a way to set/save the default camera view level when navigating via OOB (cursor keys) and other such quick switches (the ME button for ex.)?? Despite having Gen John Pope as an ancestor, I'm not using the HITS restrictions, and scrolling up twice every time is just extra 'work'. Talk about a lazy gamer, huh?

2) Is there (or can we get) a way to tell our courier to use roads instead of the direct route? Don't get me wrong, I like the direct route very much since the latest update but it's not always the best one since it regularly sends my courier directly into the enemy's lines right in view. In these cases, it would be better if he actually headed to a road first.

A checkbox on the courier orders page, or something similar to switch Mr Courier Bullseye between the two routes, would be wonderful if we don't already have it. I still prefer the current one but it also tends to make me use my general to run part of the courier route in order to get a free, straight LOS.

Thanks!

There has been a lot of recent discussion of these two subjects, if I understand your questions correctly.
1) Is there a way to set/save the default camera view level when navigating via OOB [...] scrolling up twice every time is just extra 'work'.

Thanks Blaugrana.

I've checked those threads before and didn't see anything currently possible with either, pretty sure. Optional additions for the future, perhaps.

Its strange, in MP the couriers do use roads (once you are over a certain distance from the unit you are talking to) and this is what is frustarting us! We wish they'd go in a direct line! Everyone's different, I guess.

Yeah.. I normally prefer they go straight if the receiver is anywhere remotely close. But in single-player they've been running straight across my lines right into enemy gunfire & death, instead of heading down the nearby road leading away from them. :pinch:

Would be great if we could just specify between the two, in the orders.

Actually the couriers don't seem to know the enemy is there - they take the roads and then still ride into the enemy in our MP games which is why we prefer they go direct - because its quicker and so if a message does get throuh, it gets through sooner.

Also when you see a direct line messenger dying you can actually do something about it, like move your officer to a place where the direct line is clear, with road-following couriers there is absolutely nothing you can do about it except get very close to the recipient or push the enemy unit away, both of which take too long, usually.
