Change name of divisional commander

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Change name of divisional commander

Post by burymeonthefield »

Ok, after many hours of trying different things I finally found out how to change the weapons. I made a SDK file and converted to SOBGW. Now I can change all those old 1841 muskets for Enfields and Springfield 1861.

Is there any way to change the names of some of the divisional and brigade commanders? In the scenario for my book, Gettysburg occurs in October of 1862. Hence, some of the divisional officers, such as General RH Anderson were not ready to serve on that date. So, another General must be commanding his division.

I use to have some hair, now I only have a beard. Hopefully someone can help me. My last posts were not responded to.

Thanks if anyone can help me out there.

You just change the name in the OOB. I assume you are editing a Sandbox OOB? You'll need the OOBS that come in the SDK, then create a mod with your OOB, then you can change the names, or edit whatever you want.

OK. I changed the name in the OOB SB Gettysburg 2nd day from Anderson to Martin, but nothing changed. I also changed the rifles in Wilcox brigade, but nothing happened. Excuse me for being kinda slow, but what am I doing wrong?

The modified OOB.csv file must be in the oobs folder in your mod folder. I would strongly suggest changing the name of your altered file to a unique name. The master oob file must be listed in the scenario.csv file, generally around line 20. Col A will have the word master and col B will have the name of the master oob file that the scenario will be using.

Ok, I have taken my alzheimer's med today so maybe I can understand.

I modified the Gettysburg day 2 wolf line scenario in the csv. I made the same changes in the master csv file and placed it in the OOB file in Mods. Now, the scenario crashes just after the adding shrubbery icon.

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bury,

Jim is right. You have to change the OOB name or the changes won't show. The computer will default to the original.
Example - I have 7 or 8 OOBs for roughly the same groups of Soldiers in the NapMod. The all start with Teugen-Hausen but have a suffix like _A or _3, something like that. If you are changing something in an OOB you'll need to add _1 or change the name entirely to show the computer the difference.
Another example - Custom OOBs - I'll put someone's name in it to make it really their own.
Good Luck!

Jack B)

About the crashing - happens to us all. It is probably something small like a missing comma, (no lie), or a duplication somewhere. You have to go over it line by line, comparing it to the original.

I'd offer to do it for you, but my time is crap right now. I still have to get William1993's custom OOB running. (Having REAL fun with that one.)

Also, the SOWGB.log file in the Work folder is your friend. Check this file directly after the crash, and it will more than likely list exactly what is causing the crash.

Hi guys! Just released from the insane asylum yesterday. Have a new monitor as I threw the last one at the wall (not covered by warranty.) My mental breakdown occurred while working on the Anderson in echelon scenario.

To avoid a future trip with the guys in white jackets, could someone please help me? :)

What I have been trying to do for months (did I also tell you I have Alzheimer's?) is change the armament and number of troops under Anderson's command. I also need to decrease the number of troops and artillery in the Yankee opposition.

I have almost doubled the number of troops plus added Mahone's Brigade. Still I get whipped every time I try the scenario.

My problem lies in how to change the stock OOB. Whenever I change it, nothing happens or there is a crash.

Ok, after I modify the second day OOB where do I put the file? I tried putting it in the scenario. I have changed the name of the master OOB and/or scenario, all without any luck. I so wish someone could help me.

Of course, the stuff about the mental hospital and the Alzheimers is a joke. But I sure feel this way. My only excuse is that I have secondary biliary cirrhosis which does sometimes "fogs" my mind.

If you modify a stock OOB, you must create a OOB folder in your mod and place it there. So if you are editing the Anderson scenario directly (not creating a separate mod), you would create a OOBs folder in the Bonus Scenarios folder, then place your modified master OOB there.
