So where did the name Pea Ridge come from?

Here you can talk about whatever floats your boat. Your favorite movie, sports team, etc. If it's a little racey, I suggest you post in R&R, otherwise we'll move it for you.

So where did the name Pea Ridge come from?

Post by Michael Slaunwhite »

I often wonder where names of towns come from, so I picked Pea Ridge to see where the name originated.

Here is one explanation...
There are many Pea Ridges all over Georgia, maybe even America, herself. Where does this name come from? I like to think the name is derived from peacocks being present on the ridge. To support my theory, once riding on Pea Ridge Road near Hwy 87, I saw a peacock on the road.

In some instances, this one probably, it is referring to pea vegetable crops. Georgia most certainly would have numerous pea fields. Besides names associated with the land owner, land features in the South are usually named after a prominent feature, crop, and anything else that could decipher it from the similar surrounding terrain.

Just south some distance from Pea Ridge are the Boston Mountains which, of course, is in Arkansas. Boston Mountains (?).....

Arkansas is a nice state especially if you like curvy roads. Last time I went through the state I was bothered by the northern progress the South American red ant was making. It is easy to see the evidence of them and observe their encroachment on the state of Missouri. They are a true scourge.

I was going to say the brain size of the inhabitants but of course that would be completely inappropriate and something I, for one, would never do. :P
