SOW: Gettysburg for Mac?

Post by JeanAllTrekkie »

Hey Guys any chance for a SOW: Gettysburg for The Mac?

The Mac is rising high in popularity. Google pretty much uses nothing but Mac. Millions of people every year are switching to Mac. I think a Mac port would be a great game. Companies like Paradox Interactive, AGEOD have already developed their games for The Mac. I hope you guys have plans too.

Also why is it I never see NorbSoftDev at any Gettysburg Reenactment events. You guys are missing one incredible opportunity to get your product out to the masses. We talked about that over at The Matrix Games forums - http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3148464

No I already run Parallels 7 on my Mac. I wanted a port of SOW Gettyburg.

The chances of this happening anytime soon are very slim. It would probably take up to a year to convert SOW to Mac, and that is time that we could be using to develop more products.

Any chance you guys are going to change the unit size to brigade instead of regiment. While playing the game especially large battles I noticed that with a lot of units it becomes overwhelming when you have to care for hundreds of regiments. Having brigades as the lowest unit type would definitely make the game easier to play and attract a lot more casual gamers.

Also why don't I ever see your company at any Gettysburg reenactment events? This is a great opportunity to interact with your fans and receive feedback for future titles and improvements.

Hi JeanAllTrekkie

A nice thought but, as a newcomer I guess, you don't really appreciate the way that Norb Software Development works. It is basically a very small niche company which puts a very large part of its effort and finance into value-for-money game development and even then a lot of effort in testing for instance is contributed in by what amounts to a dedicated army of volunteers. The word "shoestring" fits in here somewhere I think.

Just imagine how many extra games would need to be sold to pay for the travel expenses, the accommodation and the feeding of just one person for one day. Never at all viable. Rather I think this is a task for individual forum members to do their best when there is a re-enactment in their neck-of-the-woods. Also this is a listening forum and ideas can usually get very good mileage, if not immediately from the Parent Company then from the number of people regularly publishing sophisticated modifications to the basic game.

Easy for me to talk, I suppose though, when I live 10,000 miles away from any possible re-enactment. Still plenty of present-day wars going on here in Africa as it is.

By the way, I hope you all got a good laugh from the supposed sight of her same Britannic Majesty parachuting into the Olympic opening ceremony on Friday.

Perhaps this is true but I think it is absolutely critical someone be at the 150th for Antietam and then again for Gettysburg. The 150th Anniversary is going to be a far more popular event and even just one person for those two events could expose thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of people to the game that are not otherwise aware of it. If a group of close friends see it at a Gettysburg reenactment they could expose thousands of other people to the game via social media within hours. Does that translate into sales, who knows, but its a huge opportunity.

Yeah, the guys on the east coast cover those battles reenactments quite frequently. Still, as goody goody that all this talk sounds, solicitors of any kind are not welcome soliciting their wares among the battlefield audience. A couple of years ago at our team meeting/get-together in Gettysburg, I was stopped by a GB guide from handing out SOW game promo cards along the battle routes.

Back to this thread's title...

I too would luv to see SOW for Mac, there's a big audience there just waiting...not just time, but Norb's time will tell.

Was that one of the licensed guides the NPS allows or one of the private ones that drive people around the battlefield in their own cars to avoid having to get a license/permit?

Heck, just send some fliers/cards to the ghost tour people who stand along Steinwehr Avenue each evening and get them to hand them out with all the other stuff they hand out. :)

She was a uniformed, I assume licensed, guide. Living in Arkansas, I won't be around Steinwehr Avenue anytime soon, but thanks for the lead.
