Game automatically minimizes every few minutes
Over the lasr week, the problem began to occur. In all the time I have had the game on my computer (since 2011), I had never seen this happen. After it minimizes, the game continues, and I have to restore it quickly, which is very disorienting.I have removed the functionality of many mods, ut it doesn't resolve the problem.

You may want to check and see what other programs you have running while you are playing this when it occurs. You may have a program that is setup to have the priority of your processor when this happens.

You have something trying to run in the background. Sometimes if you disconnect your internet it is easy to find the program that is doing it.

I always shutdown SKYPE whenever I play for this very reason. SKYPE has a 'hot' area right in the right hand side of the toolbar. I guess other real-time messaging programs might do similarly.
