Graphical capabilities of War3D's engine

Post by JeroenHill »

I am quite interested in the capabilities of the game engine. As in which resolutions will the game be able to run in and what other graphical features are available (shaders, AA etc). My monitor has a native resolution of 1680*1050 and I hope the game will support these high resolutions without having to modify some file to support it.

Yes, gameplay is more important than graphics, I agree, but anno 2009 the eye wants something nice as well. I reinstalled SMA few weeks ago, gameplay was good but the graphics are so poor, couldn't bare to watch any longer.

The screenshots look good, just wondering if we can expect any more improvements to the graphics.

I have a the same resolution on my 22 inch monitor and the game scales it to fit your screen. The game looks alot better than TC2M. I don't know about AA and shaders though.

The game will support any res greater than 1024x768.

I am planning on getting out of the edit file business for this release. So we should have the option in the game, but it will probably require a restart to take effect.

Happy to hear that the game looks a lot better than TC2M, that wasn't super but still good so makes me think War3D will be very good graphics wise.

And Norb, nice to hear that settings will be native supported.

The game looks amazing, especially the maps.

It is quite a bit harder on the machine than TC2M was when I run it at 1280x1024. My machine ran TC2M beautifully, but the new game gets a little choppy when there are a lot of units on the screen. Like Norb said, fortunately there will be options to adjust graphic settings.

What system would best run this game? Any suggestions? I have often thought about plugging my cpu into my hd bigscreen...wow would that be an experience. I know you can run the tv like a monitor, but would the game's display etc. work on such a large screen?
Nosir, a chicken couldn't live on that field.

That really has nothing to do with the game. It's just how you set it up. I have a computer attached to my tv and it all works good.

It depends on your graphics card, it has to have a TV output (usually S-Video), but any graphics card I have seen that is TV capable will let you run it on your TV at several resolutions. I had mine running to my TV in 1600 or something along those lines and it looked awesome. I'm not sure if that resolution will be available in the game, but I'm sure a smaller resolution would still look great on a TV.

Now there's an idea! The new game played on my hi-def big screen, easy chair, hi-powered amp/speaker system, chips 'n dip, pizza and a supply of brewskys!
What could be better?
If the new game only supported Dolby Digital 5.1 multi-channel audio!
