10 Mile Map 1 and 2 - Released
Re: 10 Mile Map - Released
Davinci
Thank you. The new mini map looks great and, as Blaugrana confirms, the larger version works fine for me.
Looking forward to the road colour changes on 3D map and interested in the other texture changes you mentioned.
I changed my Tree and Object viewing distances to max (2000 yds) which really helps on these more open maps. I thing at lower distances (eg 1000yds) you are much more aware of the engine drawing your world (if that makes sense?).
The down side of this must be a significant hit on the FPS, as many agree these settings are a major culprit. I have not checked this out yet but will try it out today.

Re: 10 Mile Map - Released
Update
I have just managed to load down and install the 10 mile map after numerous failures due to the download breaking part way through. Finally got it done after Mike helped me with the full download URL enabling me to use DAP and utilising its 'resume' function. Thanks Mike .... if only the world was as reliable as you.
It would be useful if the full download URL could be shown routinely for each mod etc as well as the link button.
As this was downloading from NSD I approached the Norbsoft support for advice only to get a 'push off' response. I was not asking for advice on the working of the mod .... only for download problems. There is nothing wrong with my computer .... I downloaded the main game and both extensions from Slitherine without a single problem.
I get very confused at times with Norbsoft and its variety of domains and addresses. Where do NSD fit into the Norbsoft picture and whom do I approach for support on NSD download problems ?

Re: 10 Mile Map - Released
Have now tried the 10 mile map. Superb is an understatement.
At last we can flank an Army with a Corps and simulate our own Chancellorsville.
Moreover, for the first time in the history of MMG and Norbsoftware, we finally have an arena big enough to accommodate the Waterloo OOB. Anyone considering updating the Horse and Musket Waterloo OOB ?
I am sure we have enough simple generic French and British uniforms in the Peninsular Mod to cope adequately if not absolutely accurately. The Dutch Belgian would be a problem but they could be declared honorary British for the duration.
Forget Blucher and his lot ..... they turned up late anyway.
If I just gave a certain gentleman a near heart attack with my suggestion, I apologise. It was a close-run thing after all.

Re: 10 Mile Map - Released
Scaling
Whilst using the 10 mile map for the first time, I happened to notice a squadron of cavalry resting behind a building. The top of their headgear showed above the roofline.
Any infantryman would have to go down on his knees to enter any of the doors. Is this a by-product of the new map-size ? I have never noticed this effect quite so pronounced using other maps, even though the men are reckoned to scale to about 14 ft tall generally.
This puts a whole new twist on the term "Grande Armee'. Frederick of Prussia would be so jealous.

Re: 10 Mile Map - Released
@ Jack – Hey, how is everything going, also I would think that it should work on the 1.4 Version considering that it was built while using that patch!
You might be better placing a fog on the outer-limits to cover up the open-terrain.
I also agree that with vast empty openness is sort of distracting but this map is quite demanding.
I’ll play around with the fog-settings and see if I can hide a little bit of the openness.
I’m guessing that this is a sort of bad-timing considering that the Patch just came out, and all of the problems, and top that off with a merger; the team is probably exhausted.
Hey, I’m glad to hear that you got the game back up and running!

No, Thank You , after all it was your idea!Thank you. The new mini map looks great and, as Blaugrana confirms, the larger version works fine for me. .
The drawing-distance of the trees would have to be one of the most demanding parts of drawing the game. I think that it surpasses drawing the houses and the troops, but that’s a guess.I changed my Tree and Object viewing distances to max (2000 yds) which really help on these more open maps. I thing at lower distances (eg 1000yds) you are much more aware of the engine drawing your world (if that makes sense?). .

I’m not sure how to answer this one, NSD and NorbSoftDev are the same.I get very confused at times with Norbsoft and its variety of domains and addresses. Where do NSD fit into the Norbsoft picture and whom do I approach for support on NSD download problems ?

Re: 10 Mile Map - Released
Sorry, I missed this post!Scaling
Whilst using the 10 mile map for the first time, I happened to notice a squadron of cavalry resting behind a building. The top of their headgear showed above the roofline.
Well.....I added in all of the objects using a scale, but then changed around the order of the packages files, that's the files that contains the objects.
This change caused quite a few problems.....such as re-scaling the large barn, missing houses...etc...
I have changed the scaling of most of the barns back to the larger size, also replaced roughly seventy houses, and sheds that seem to have vanished when I switched around the files.
There is a strong possibility that the object you mentioned was a brown-barn, and I have already fixed it. I just missed it before the Beta was released.
But, to answer your question - all objects should appear at the proper height, except some of the back doors that are small by default.
Thanks,
davinci

Re: 10 Mile Map - Released
Hi Gunship
There is a problem downloading from NSD for this map. I had about eleven failures.
The full URL is http://www.norbsoftware.com/NSDTeam/Map ... eMapV1.exe
If you have access to DAP or a similar download manager, using this URL to start the download should enable you to invoke 'resume' when you get a break. That's how I did it in the end. Damned fine map though, worth all the hastle.
I hoped you won't be too alarmed regarding my suggestion elsewhere that this map be used as a vehicle for a Waterloo OOB. I just looked up the Waterloo OOB in Horse and Musket and it really is a monster. So big that EXCELL simply can't display all of it.
Anybody wants a copy of this original let me know. It won't of course work yet in SOWGB without a lot of attention along the WAGRAM lines.

Re: 10 Mile Map - Released
Geoff,
Re: Waterloo OOB. As time permits, I have been working on it. No Prussians of course, but we CAN use Portuguese Line Troops for Belgians and what-not. Their Blue on Blue uniform was similar to the Dutch-Belgians, except they used a French-style Shako. Considering they had been French-allied troops for a long time, not surprising. We'd need Scots Greys though. I know Gunship is working on British Heavy Dragoons and Dragoon Guards. We've got all the french uniforms we need though. No problems there. Just no Guard Cavalry.
Jack B)
Now - because we can use this huge freakin' map, Grand Stratigic Manuvers with Corps are a possiblity. MP anyone? (yet?)
DaV - Am alive, so far. Thanks for asking.

Re: 10 Mile Map - Released
I wish all the maps were 10 miles. I knew this would happen, now I can't play without it lol! :woohoo: The ability to have such a large area to roam enables a better setting for tactics. With the smaller maps, I can basically extrapolate where the enemy flanks are, with this one I don't know for certain because the size prevents you from being able to box in the AI.
