Released - Desaturated Terrain for Gettysburg, Antietam and Pipe Creek

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Copy the Desaturated Terrain mod folder to the Mod folder in SoW.

Activation Readme

Desaturated Terrain
Version 1.00

This mod activates the desaturated terrain (trees etc) for Gettysburg, Antietam and Pipe Creek in SANDBOX play.

To play, select the mod (make sure a 'yellow block' is shown next to the mod) in the modifications selection screen, then choose the map of your choice in the map selection screen.

Credit is due to 2nd_TX, Jolly and NSD for providing the materials for this mod.

Time constraints have meant that I have not altered any csvs for the stock maps, but those for Antietam would benefit from modding to thin out or mix up certain terrain to better fit with this mod. The csvs for the Antietam maps are available in the latest SDK.

This desaturated terrain can be made to work in non-sandbox mode - i.e. in scenarios - but that involves replacing the terrain.dds and terrain.plist files in the main Base/Graphics/Packed folder. If you are new to modding you may wish to avoid this added complication and just use this mod for sandbox play. If you do experiment - that is your choice. Back up the stock files first.

Great mod, Crikey, thanks for this.

I tried this and got very wierd results (sorry - didn't take screenshots) so scurried back to stock files. I'm running the game on a laptop and left my normal mods on (Couriers & Maps, GCM toolbar & the Antietam trees mod), as I thought they wouldn't effect scenario play. I play almost exclusively sandbox, so was just curiosity on my part and only reporting back FYI. Thanks again.

Blaugrana - deselect the Antietam tree mod you are already running. Both mods seek to replace stock terrain.

I've got it working beautifully as a mod in sandbox (and sorry, yep I had disactivated other terrain mod first).

I've just tried replacing the stock files again. This time I disactivated all mods before trying a scenario, just in case.

I got the same hallucinogenic results:

Not sure why, but again, this is not a problem for me as I play almost exclusively sandbox. This may be something specific to my set-up, so just posting FYI.

And everybody thought dropping acid was a 60s thing.
Maybe it was a corrupt download. I used it yesterday with Courier&Maps and had no flashbacks whatsoever.
I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.

1. Are you playing Antietam or GB scenarios? Think I tested in a GB scenario.

2. I got a similar prob because I kept the old terrain effects dds & plist in the base/packed folder albeit I'd renamed them. These can't be kept in there with new ones for some reason. I assume they must still confuse each other.

That's what I did, too. That'll be the problem ;-(.
I'll take the stock ones out and hide them somewhere where the game can't see 'em.

Thanks again.
