Any idea how this game would run on a new iMac?

Post by kaschykb »

Without starting a Apple v PC war here, does anybody run this game on a Mac and how well so you think it would run on the new iMac. I have a Windows 7 laptop I run it on currently and it horribly laggy. I'm thinking about getting one of the new iMacs for Christmas but am worried I wouldn't be able to run this game. If I do get a Mac it would be my first. I know there are ways of running PC software on Macs but I wonder if these slow down performance. Also, would all the mod installer and update packages continue to work the same way? Thanks.

Only way to find out for yourself is too give it a try. If it works fantastic, if it doesn't then you will know.

Test drive everything yourself... It's the only way to do it.

Have fun!

That's a big investment for a test run. I find research helps too.

Even with the expensive approach of an MS OS on a MAC machine, with the absence of right click camera movement I don't think this would be worth considering.

Well based on the limited response to my question, it's apparent there aren't many Mac users on these forums. But in case the Matrix games crowd brought some along I'll update my own thread here.

I decided to go with a new 21.5" iMac (BTO but not maxed out). I installed Windows 7 via Boot Camp and SOW runs like a dream. So much more enjoyable to play now. Running Windows in Boot Camp is basically the same as on a PC so you can install all mods and use a regular mouse etc.

I am running the game on a MacPro in Bootcamp with Windows7 64bit- a bit more power than the iMac, but it is the 2008 model. It runs ANY PC game perfectly. All the Scourge of War titles included.

I also have a Logitech wireless mouse for the right-click and scroll wheel. My only suggestion would be to add some spare RAM (at least 6-8gigs.

Hi,
you must install the system using BOOTCAMP (inside MAC OS)!

In this way, when you turn on your mac, you will not have to do is choose which system to activate (MAC or WIN).

Via BOOTCAMP, install the windows "native" as if your Mac were a PC.

Remember before you install WIN, but it is explained in the guide bootcamp, to prepare a CD with the drivers compatible for windows.

Work very well.

Congratulations on your excellent choice.

This is indeed good news. Being able to use an Intel based, right click functionality, mouse completes the deal. I'll now take MAC compatibility off my 'Wish List' and push it no more. Also, my personal preference has changed anyway, because Win 7 has matched MAC, OS wise, in my opinion. So, no need to pay a 30 percent mark up for MAC hardware and software anymore just to get a stable and intuitive OS...Win 7 ROCKS, although ya gotta still be wary of MS and it's PARANOID BIG BROTHER WITH DOMINANCE ISSUES tendencies.

One question if you all are still around, with BootCamp are you also able to run an Intel based wireless keyboard?
