OK, Don't take my word for this considering that I don't play any of the scenario's, but just because you ask, it doesn't mean that the request will be granted.

If the artillery is engaged, or if they (i.e...Higher-Command) feel that they need the artillery else-where - your request will be denied.

Wow, 12 years old. When I was your age we were celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Civil War.

Glad this game wasn't available then, I might of never graduated from college. :P

Yeah, I was really gung ho Civil War back then, had my war sets from Sears Roebuck, several sets.

Regarding your question, don't know, maybe one of the courier professors on board here can help out. I just know it's stubborn going trying to move artillery, especially when they're not attached to your command.

If you come aboard, you'll be welcomed in as probably our youngest player. Cool that you're interested, hope your generation joins in, it's all about learning history and tactics...quick reflexes are not required as with most games of this modern era...just a quick mind. ;)

It does seem hit and miss at times.

I, for one, don't have definitive instructions but I'm sure someone here will, MTG? .

Its a subject discussed several times in the forum, way back, and I believe patches have changed things a bit since.

Another consideration is, there are several ways of playing the game and issuing orders e.g. Courier/Non Courier, Command map/ point and click. Many of us use mods too.

General advice is:

-Use the TC command when close battery when enemy is visible and is within range.

-Remember to limber up before moving

Sorry, that's the best I can do for now but getting my head round this is my next task and I will be reporting back when I've figured it out.

BTW- If you get into MP play (which I can really recommend), go easy on us 'old timers' with your youthful energy and lightening reflexes! :)

If you tell us more exactly what you did someone may know why it didn't work.

I moved a cannon that was engaged to see if this would work, and YES it does work!

I sent the courier-order to the individual cannon, and not to the Artillery-Officer.

The red circle is the courier ariving at the cannon, and the other red circle is the new destination of the cannon.

The Blue circle is the position of General Hood - used as a reference point for this example.

Courier--Message.....something like this.....may not be exact terminology.

The Time Stamp :
Take Command Off :
Detach :
Click the name of individual cannon
Orders - Move to the left flank of General Hood
Face : East
Change to this formation - Artillery in line - really not a command for one gun!
Dispatch \ Send Message : Works as designed!

I've just played the first tutorial again and see that in this you are Cutler and you (eventually) command a brigade. There is a battery under Capt Hall, but you do not command him.

This could be the problem.

t-storm - let us know which scenario / tutorial you were playing. I'm afraid I can't remember what is available in the demo.

Just for general information, you will get the best results from your artillery if you use multiple guns against a target. One gun alone will not do much unless it is firing canister.

There are two ways to move an individual gun. The first is the method Davinci gave which will work in the scenarios where mods are not allowed. The one additional order I would add is to re-attach the gun once it is in position and firing. It won't move, but if you ever want to move the entire battery somewhere else, that gun will just sit in the location you left it at.

The 2nd way to move a gun is to use the Courier&Maps mod which adds a number of useful orders:
1. select gun to move.
2. Combat Artillery. (follow the list that pops up)
1. No orders.
2. Move to order.
3. Ignore enemy.
4. face in a certain direction. (usually not necessary)

The gun will limber up and move where you want it to go.
I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.
