Does anybody have some tips on how to build a strong defensive position? Please post.
I URGENTLY need some tips on how to protect my center, flanks and "spank" (directly behind you.)
Thanks,
Robert E Lee.

Put troops, guns, or impassable terrain there.

Whatever you do, don't take any advice from Maj Gen Oliver O. Howard at Chancellorsville...

Been there, done that. I even put regiments on both flanks facing outward. I am always overrun.

if you can´t hold against overwhelming numbers.
fall back
and...........always use the terrain (fence, wall, woods, high ground...etc..)

What size force are you talking about? Brig? Div? Corps? For brig, I always use double line formation when attacking or defending. Commit your front regiments, and the rear regiments can be used to fill in holes, guard flanks, etc. The same can be used (double line) for Division. Terrain is definitely important. Always try to have the higher ground than the enemy, as well as line-up behind a fence, wall, or woods (while the enemy is in the open).

I can't help but laugh when Robert E. Lee, the master of Sharpsburg, Cold Harbor, and Petersburg, is asking how to establish a good defense.
1. Maintain a solid line.
2. Hold higher ground or at least cover (woods) for terrain bonus.
3. Put at least one flank on a river, hilltop, or better yet the edge of the map.
4. Put your guns between your regiments and slightly behind them.
5. Edit the weapons file and OOB giving all your men mg42's (worked for me).

I am facing Ewell's Corp, so it is a pretty large force.

FYI: I am the great great grandson, (no lie) I know how to establish a good defensive line, I was just wondering what YOU do.
