Version 1.6 Courier Bug

Game won't run. Keeps crashing. Hopefully we won't get any posts here, but if we do, we'll try to help you out. You can also post any bugs that you find here. IMPORTANT: Don't post mod related problems here!

No, it hasn't - LP was referring to our tests before 1.6 was posted. I'll make sure we try this. Thanks for the info.

Just a status update -

We tried to replicate this - used your advice. We could only get it to happen once in two games (if it's the same thing happened) - sent hundreds of messages. We used an unmodded version.

We'll keep looking into it.

If you found it once, then you found it. What level of command were the players at, division or brigade? Perhaps it's also a function of that. It seems to only rarely happen to brigade commanders and is much more frequent at higher levels of command. Although most of the players have been playing at division level or above so it may just be coincidence. How many people were involved?

Hi Kevin, we were 5 players. As Conor said, we were sending hundreds of couriers but only 1 bug found ("return to sender"). We never encountered the "wrong recipient" bug.
In sundays Nap game the bug was really often occuring. It would be helping to know if he happens equally often using the same setup (number of players, command structure), but witout a mod.

That's the problem with hunting down erratic bugs. There are a large number of parameters to vary in order to find the combination that makes the problem appear with some frequency. In Sunday's game, the French had 7 players, 1 corps, 4 division and 2 brigade commanders. All of my messages that bounced, except one, were to division commanders. Was the test game you ran at brigade level couriers? I have certainly noticed that with more humans in the game, the frequency of the bug increases. With just 2 player, I only see it occur once per game. This happens with both a stock and Nappy OOB.

This bug is analogous to the time bug. Some variable is accidentally reset and the order is not executed properly. Maybe fixing the time bug, moved the problem to the next variable in the list. I'm grasping for straws here. :)

About my sunday experience with the bug I can isolate these particularities:

- text longer than usual
- there are many couriers at the same moment running to me, from different players
- they were mixed (free text+map point)
- they receivers are two grades distants from me in hierarchy (from CiC to division commanders, corps commander AI disable)

I remembered now a similar bug I had with the patch 1.4 or 1.5 with the couriers in multi. Sometimes happened writing to a human, I received back the message confirmation like it was a AI, and the player never received the message; the difference was that in the new case the feedback is immediate. I remember I thought it was related to duplicated names in the receivers list sometime appeared in multiplayer. Could be related to this?

In the first test run (with the bug) we had 1 div cmdr and 4 brig cmdrs. In the second game (without bug) we were 1 corps cmdr and 4 div cmdrs.

How long did the games run? If they ran at least an hour, I would have expected 5 players to see several occurrences of the bug.

I think it's all my fault. I have a special hack that returns all couriers sent to me by MTG.
