What is the standard wait time to expect a response to a request for help? I know these guys can't be everywhere at once.

Depends on many factors, Who is on the forum, what is the issue?,is it easily solvable? The weather, the political situation, hunger,? I would say any time between minutes and hours and some times days but not beyond that.
