I am currently trying to sell my brothers laptop for him on Craigslist and I have never had any problems with the stuff that I have tried to sell. It has mostly been small stuff like a desk or table, but man, put up a laptop and the Nigerian scammers come out of the wall. I had 3 last night trying to give me a paypal payment and wanting me to ship it to Nigeria.
This is a bit rediculous, but it does make for a good laugh. I can't believe people fall for that crap.
Scammers
Re:Scammers
i know what you mean. we tried to sell an antique cup board and I got about three emails stating the party would send me a check and have his people come pick it up. when i emailed back that I needed to wait until the check cleared the bank, i never heard back from them. So be careful. B)
Re:Scammers
Yep, I had one of those too, I emailed the person back telling them the same thing and they didn't get back to me. Most of them try to opperate through paypal, at least these group of people, and they like to send fake paypal messages too.

Re:Scammers
I actually went through with it with one of those scammers. I was selling a motorcycle and he offered to buy it for more than I was selling it, but the check he sent was going to be even more.
600 for the bike
800 he offered
11000 check
So he asked if I would kindly just wire him the difference. He used lots of religious terms to prove he was an upstanding man. I received the check, then he kept asking where the wire money was. It was a Bank of America cashiers check, so I brought it to the bank and they said it was valid. I asked them to please really check, so they called the main office and confirmed that it was a forgery.
I emailed him back that there was a problem with the check and could he please wire the money, I never heard back.

'caveat emptor' - Let the buyer beware, used to be the old capitalist slogan.
Now a days, its 'Let the seller beware'!

Re:Scammers
This guy is persistent. He has emailed me 3 times that he has already payed me through paypal, yet his "offical" paypal notification isn't even close to what paypal send to verify that a payment has been made. And I don't have any extra funds in my acccount.
haha, I have told him twice now that he wont' be getting the laptop and that he is a scammer, but he is persistent.

Re:Scammers
Just tell him that you are waiting for the confirmation in your paypal account. That you have logged in many times and you still don't see it. But as soon as it shows up you'll send the laptop. Tell him if there is a problem with his payment that he should contact paypal and send him the paypal contact information. Tell him that if there is an issue, that he needs to bring it up with paypal, as all that you can do is await confirmation. To be cocky, you could send him a print screen of your paypal account transactions showing no deposits (make sure of course to black out personal information).
Re:Scammers
Good idea norb!!
I like the idea of rubbing it in his face that he is a turd and a liar.
