Adding the TC2M Sounds into SOW:

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Adding the TC2M Sounds into SOW:

Post by Davinci »

Not - A - Complete - Mod !

Hey, if anybody remembers way-back-when, we took some of the sounds from the SMG game and added them into the TC2M game.

Such as...when you click the line formation you would hear....Battle-Line ...etc

I play with a modded gui file, the file that controls this, so I tried to delete my modded lines and only leave the lines to hear the battle voices, that didn't work!

So, if anyone would like to add this into their game, you are going to have to edit the gui that you constantly have activated ...Such as Reb's or MTG toolbar Mods.

I have included an example gui_example file, so that you will know which lines to edit, but it is fairly simple to do with an excel-type-program .

I have also included the sounds2 file, where the sounds are located. I named it sounds2 so that no-one will try to Install it and over-ride the default sounds folder.

A Mod can contain a Sounds folder, so it can be renamed to Sounds and placed into a Mod . I have mine added into the Base \ Sounds folder.

The sounds are located in a sfx file that has to be located into the mod. DO Not overwrite your default sfx file.

The Column G in the gui.csv is the location of the sound file name, and the columns T and V explains the function of that particular line.

Basically, it takes quite a bit of writing to explain something that is very simple in real-life.

But, if you match the columns like in the example, it is very simple to edit the voices in the game.

Remember - that you must edit the voices in different sections of the gui.csv file...such as...

GUI_LVL6 - is for the Regiments .....check the gui_example file
GUI_LVL5 - is for the Brigade Commanders .....check the gui_example file
GUI_LVL4 - is for the Division Commanders .....check the gui_example file

ETC...

Careful Da Vinci...... Pandora's Box here.

The Nap faction will be wanting these commands in French, German, Spanish, Flemish, Portuguese, Italian, Swedish, Polish, Czech, Russian and Hungarian to match all those lovely flags !!! Oh yes, and for Wellington in English English please as well as American English.

Seriously though, I always liked to hear those commands in TC2M. Good idea.

On reflection. Horse and Musket did already have commands in French and German.

The former linked with the Waterloo and Quatre Bras OOB's and the latter probably with the King's German Legion formations in the American Revolutionary War OOB's.

I distinctly remember 'Feuer !' 'Vorwaerts !" and 'En Avant !"

Would these be available for incorporation also ?

I would say that if it worked for the previous game, then it would work with this game.

The sounds are very simple to add them into the game, so I'll walk you through-it, if you decide to add them into the Nap \ Mod!

I'm most likely to be off the ball here, but instead of messing with the .csv's, why not just create a mod folder for the sounds, and just rename the TC2M sounds to the name of the sounds in the main game. This way you have no need for messing around with any of the csv's.

Like I said though I could be off the mark here.

I wouldn't say that you are off the mark, and all of the information along with the sounds are listed above if You care to do it!

But, unless you plan on editing one of the most used gui files, it probably will not work!

Basically, to put this another way, this will probably interfere with anyone using a Toolbar Mod , unless they edit that particular gui file, in that particular mod.

So, I felt that it was better to just leave it up to the individual to choose if they wanted it or not!

Cleaburn , How is everything going!

If you plan on editing Reb 's toolbar mod, then it will probably work, due to the fact that it will not change anything on the toolbar, other than the sounds.

Basically, it will change the bugle sounds to the sounds of voice commands .

I don't really like messing with another modders mod, especially since Reb lives in Arkansas which is right next to Tennessee !

But, I will edit in some of the commands for the Infantry, and the Brigades so that you can test it out!

I'll also figure out a way that you can test this without messing up Reb 's mod.

Give me about a hour from now to work on this!

Hey, mods are made to be messed with. The whole idea of mods is to make the game like YOU like to play it. If anyone wishes to alter any of my mods all I ask is that credit is acknowledged for the original design if the mod is offered publicly, a kind of courtesy if you will.

Thanks Reb :

If Cleaburn doesn't mind testing this, I'll try to edit the whole file (all ranks,) and after we get it to work, I'll rename it to what-ever you find acceptable to work with your toolbar.

Cleaburn - this is not tested, so you will have to let me know what works and what doesn't work.

Also, any sounds that overlap each other.

This mod must be placed below Reb's toolbar mod in order to work.

Do Not - Place this in the Toolbar mod - it is a separate mod!
