Going to Spain

Here you can talk about whatever floats your boat. Your favorite movie, sports team, etc. If it's a little racey, I suggest you post in R&R, otherwise we'll move it for you.

Going to Spain

Post by norb »

Going to Spain soon, spending a week there. Don't speak Spanish, maybe a little. Flying into Madrid, but spending the time in Marbella (sp?). The entire family is going. Sisters & their families, Father. Hope it's not a disaster. So what do you do in Spain? Any places good for the little monsters? Never even been to Europe.

When it comes to animals, I do not believe, nor prescribe to their being hurt or maimed for the entertainment purposes of those lowly humans that find enjoyment in such a pitiful entertainment genre.
I also do not agree with Rodeo's........never have.

Now as far has sending my men to their death's on the glorious field of battle.......all for the Glory of Virginia!!..........thy will be done.

It is out of season at the moment but the weather should be ok. At least it will be quieter. Madrid is an amazing City - just beautiful to walk around and visit museums, art galleries etc. Marbella is a resort - I've never been but you will probably find it very British. Lots of ex pats out there. You will have no problem with the language as the Spanish will all speak English and there are loads of Brits there - learning a few words is always helpful (Spanish - not English that is ;)). The Spanish food is great especially if you like olives, hams, seafood paella etc. You will also find plenty of English restaurants and Irish bars.

Google Marbella for more info. The Spanish I have found to be relaxed and friendly but do watch out for dodgy types -pickpockets and bag snatchers. Don't wander around covered in cameras with your wallet hanging out of your back pocket.

As for the kids there should be plenty for them to do - the Spanish are very child friendly and Spanish children will be out at restaurants late at night. The also have a tradition of promenading - the whole family walk up and down the main street/seafront stopping for drinks/coffee/ice cream and just chatting to everyone they know.

Bullfighting tends to be put on mostly for tourists these days I believe - never been to one myself but old Ernest Hemmingway loved them. If you're lucky you will find a religious festival going on. When we were in Majorca in summer they had a festival celebrating the expulsion of the Moors. It was mad - lots of firing guns and hordes of people dressed up enjoying themselves. The grand finale was a 'mock' battle between Christians and Moors.

Have fun! Welcome to the Old World.

Marbella is also about 20 miles up the coast from Gibralter. That might make an interesting day trip. It is too far south to get up to the battlefields of the Peninsular campaign. Enjoy the break.

I'm with you on this one! Being a dog lover, i especially find the low life's who breed and train dogs to fight along with their betting spectators disgusting and criminal.

Thats an easy one, watch em film a spaghetti Western!
Closest i've been to Spain were my weekend trips across the border to Tijuana when i lived in So. California! Oh the memories! :)

One of my old co-workers took a trip to Spain and talked about it for a weeks after. He and his wife had a good time there and was especially impressed with the laid back life style in that country.
Have a good trip!

I'm a little worried that after Norb gets back the game will be released with the Iron Brigade wearing sombreros.
