Newbie - Using the Camera in Hilly Terrain

Post by PunkinsPuppy »

I am slowly working my way thru the tutorials (I am currently in the 2nd).

This tutorial involves moving and fighting with units on a "severe" hill and I have had great difficulty positioning the camera in order to view my units and the progress of the battle. I have even experimented with moving the camera to the Confederate side in order to issue orders to my Federal units. When I position on "Me", there are locations where I stare off into the sky and don't see my "flag". Moving the camera back will not reveal me or my units because they become hidden by the slope of the hillside. Changing the direction of the view will help bring things into view, but if I want to advance I then must change the camera in order to select a spot.

What can I do if I find myself in this predicament? (Other than avoid these locations and similar ones in future battles.) While I find in general the movement of the troops and the battles very realistic, the camera view has definitely interfered with the game-play.

Thanks in advance.

In Options, set the difficulty level to Normal or below. This gives you full camera control. I think this is your issue.

Thank you for your quick reply!

I have set the options to "Seasoned" and am giving that a try. I just hope that the AI does not "bake" me with the higher setting - ;)

It'll probably cause you to pepper your games with some salty language. :P
