Bugles & Flags XIX

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Re: Bugles and Flags XIII

Post by RebBugler »

Hey Reb, Love your mod and XIII is looking good! Me and 2ndAcr and the rest of us in our little group used it last night and it seemed to work fine.

We did have two OOBs where couriers didn't seem to work _at all_ but that seemed to be specific to the OOBs and not Bugles mod.

I love the addition of the "Line with Arty in Front" formation command on the tool bar. To me, this is generally how I want to deploy my Div attached artillery, though not always. Couple questions:

1. How hard would it be to include the "Line with Arty in Front" formation option for Corp level commanders toolbar? If it would be a real headache I won't even bother, but if you say it would be doable I may have a look about seeing if I can get it to work.

2. I would think it wouldn't be too difficult to include that formation in the courier's formation command options?

3. More of a 'bonus' question: how extensive are the options here with various formations? Would it be possible to create completely novel formations, say for example a Brigade formation in which (for example) the middle of five regiments is recessed 50 yards relative to the rest and an arty battery forms up immediately in front of that regiment?
Appreciate the kudos :)

1) easy, if you can't figure it out I'll whip something up, just need the drills and gui files altered
2) pretty easy, some commands won't work, like Amoveto, but I'm sure it will accept new formations. I forget which file is modded...MTG Help here please.
3) Formation builds are tricky to learn, least for me, but the sky's the limit. ADukes is the guru here, he can tell you what is possible or not.

Don't think I greeted ya early on...Welcome Aboard

Courier and Maps has a couple of corps formations on the courier screen. These are not too useful since a corps is so large, it will form with no regard for the terrain.

Yes, that is easy. It would be a division formation though, if you want the battery to automatically deploy into the gap. Creating formations is not difficult once you learn the tricks of the trade. The best way to do that is to study the ones that have been created, make a few changes and look at the results. The KS Napoleon Mod has a number of non-ACW formations in it.
I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.

Thanks guys. One more question. Does the Reb Bugler toolbar worth with the Napoleon mod?

Question here.... are the Bugles and Flags versions additive or does the latest stand on its own ??
That is.... if I just download XIII am I good to go, or do I have to track down and load the previous versions upon which to build ?

Thanks all.... reason is with XIII all my flags are NOT working at all.

Hey johnd5555 ,

Bugles and Flags XIII is the only version that is needed.

Double check your Modifications in the Main Menu, that you have it activated and the bar next to appears.

ah thanks... but I tracked down my problem.... it was covered sometime ago here, and has to do with an older video card.... I loaded v10, and it works... so I have to see about doing some upgrads...
Thanks for your answer.

Reb - Hey, how is everything down there is the great state of Arkansas.

Question - Which Version of your Mod did you post the Confederate HQ Flag , and did you ever do a high-detail one?

Thanks,

davinci

I thought the CS HQ, or Lee HQ, flag has been in the DRF set since day one. Regardless, the HD version was released this February with version XI.

Except for our football team :S , everything is going OK here in the natural state...thanks for asking. :)

Hi Reb

Don't think that's the flag Davinci means. Before you get very confused, I should say he is actually asking on my behalf. He posted a screenshot of one of your flags on the 10 mile map thread a few days ago, and I really liked the look of it, and asked him where I could get it.

It's a red diagonal St Andrew's Cross on a white field, with 13 white stars on the cross. Very unusual......but strangely attractive :woohoo:

Does that ring any bells?

Regards

Martin
