First Manassas OOB; Completed
First Manassas OOB; Completed
Greetings all. This is my first post here and I come asking for help but bearing a gift as well! I have attached a First Manassas OOB, it was created from research and info found both online and via talonsoft games. Unit and battery strengths and equipment is as accurate as I have been able to research. Disclaimer: I cant stand one aspect of this OOB but have left it based on history. At that time it seems they attached artillery directly to brigades and while I have found that a bit unwieldy in game, I have left it for flavor.
Now for my problem. I am attempting to combine a few mods so I can use custom NAP OOBs, the KSNapoleon mod along with Gunships sprites but for the life of me cannot get it to work. My OOB will load correctly in single player sb but every time I try to load it multiplayer it crashes to desktop while trying to load a Prussian flag and thus far I havent been able to load a game with the new sprites. If anyone could provide a walk through on this it would be much appreciated.

**Update** After some tinkering it seems to load everything fine, but when the bottom bar changes from planting shrubbery to waiting for all players etc. I get a ctd...
Re: First Manassas OOB; Completed
Hmm, I'm looking at this OOB and it is quite confusing to say the least!
I'm not sure that you can combine Infantry and Cavalry into the same Brigade, they have different formations.....But, I could be wrong on that.
I don't think that you can have that many Regiments per Brigade, you have some reaching ten .
What are the numbers that you have in the B Column ?
Where did you get the idea of combining the Infantry with the Artillery, has anyone ever done that before and it worked?

The only true logic is that, there is no true logic!
Re: First Manassas OOB; Completed
Actually the organization works as it is listed, my brother and I have fought around half a dozen battles using it. However it is difficult to deploy everyone with the guns attached as regiments which we notch up to the poor state of the armies in that time. Plus the guns were attached that way historically. Interestingly enough it will accept that many regiments. The numbers in column B (OOB #s) were from the generator I used.

Fair Enough!
Try running the OOB that you are having a problem with in another Mod, instead of the Mods that you are combining.
To put that another way, try running that OOB in the default Napoleon Mod to see if it works.

Re: First Manassas OOB; Completed
The problem seems to be isolated with the sprites from gunship. My OOB is France v Prussia so default Napoleon wouldn't run it regardless. I can load my OOB single player, but to load it in multi I recieved the duplicate csv message. From there I tried to merge the gunship and KSNap. mod but the best I can do is get a ctd when it tries to start the match
Re: First Manassas OOB; Completed
I don't think you can run both packed and unpacked sprites in MP. I haven't tried this myself but it is discussed elswhere in the forum. Gunship24's unpacked sprites are being converted though. Hopefully they will be released for all but best keep your eye on the KS Nap mod, at least

Re: First Manassas OOB; Completed
Thank you all for the help. I think you are right Grog, after two days straight of working on this I believe this is the case as well. Sadly I learned this only after making an 80k man OOB!

All,
Grog is exactly right. You cannot run packed and unpacked sprites in MP. As I recall, NapMod MP games have to use just the straight download NapMod with no changes or it will CTD.

Re: First Manassas OOB; Completed
I am in the process of packing Gunship's other sprites. Once I have contacted him about releasing them, I'll post a link. However, there is more to it than just packing the sprites. There are also several csv files which must be included. They tell the game about the new sprites and how to use them. Right now, I am incorporating this new information into the KS Napoleon Mod. This means that the battles are quite different from the linear warfare of the ACW. The European wars of the early 19th century were combined arms affairs. By appropriately modding some of the other csv files and tinkering with some oob values, the SOW engine does produce a rudimentary but reasonable simulation of this. That's something the game engine was not designed to do and is remarkable that this even works. Kudos to Norb.
So if you are expecting to fight more of an ACW battle in fancy dress, you will have to add the new sprite information into your own mod, or add it to Gunship's Road To Wagram mod.

I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.
