All,
Yes, with DaV's help, I've had to reset the graphics files so the SOWGB game engine will recognize them. They don't just drop in.

Re: Whats Next?
In regards to this W.O.R. game - (http://warofrights.com/2013/02/field-re ... y-trailer/) -
as pretty as the graphics are, certain screenshots look nothing like Antietam.
Having been to the battlefield many times, and having played Scourge of War Antietam, I can say you really feel like you are there with Scourge of War. Yes, it's true the graphics engine is dated, but Norb has really captured the essence of the terrain using the resources at his disposal. Even SOWG makes you feel as if you are at Little Round Top or McPherson's Ridge.
Some of these high end first person ACW shooters look like your in a lush place like New Zealand. Many of these games were probably made by foreign game companies who never even set foot on the battlefields they recreate. I think SOW has more soul and character as far as recreating "it".

Re: Whats Next?
Thanks for everyone comments re the graphics. We are working to upgrade these in the next version of the game. Maps have come along leaps and bounds and in the sprites we have also made some progress. The new texture packer has helped cut down unnecessary space on sprite sheets. The question we are then faced with is do we use that saving for higher resolution sprites or more uniforms. In the end its a compromise between both. Also Norb has developed a new way of overlaying sprites so there can be more variety with less memory use.
We tried 3d models but as Jim says you only get about 5,000 max and that's not even getting near Rudy's favourite size battle. Rest assured we are constantly looking at ways of improving the look and feel. I see games all the time that look beautiful and I want us to attain those standards but we do have trade offs so for the moment we have sprites which aren't as lovely as 3d but one day we will get there.
This whole process has been a learning curve for us all. None of us do this as a day job and the majority have family so its a labour of love. I started just modding and am self taught. Yes I can see the first set of sprites could have been better but I learnt lot making them and the next set will be an improvement. Especially with some stuff Norb has introduced. I wish I could show you them to get feedback but it gives too much away...
So I'm no wizard. In fact more Frodo Baggins than Gandalf and so to paraphrase Frodo - "I will take the sprites to the game, though I do not know the way..."

Re: Whats Next?
I think that the game is quite spectacular and really does make one feel as if they are fighting in true Civil-War-Atmosphere.
The long awaited Civil-War-Campaign-System will be a huge success to all of the single-players.
I wish that Norb would figure out a way of making the maps a lot bigger than the default maps, since he is the only one that can do that correctly.
Also, I wish that the number of uniforms would be increased from six to somewhere around twelve per regiment.
I would also like to see a way of separating the men when they are in the wooded areas, since trees would spread them out some-what.
I hope that the game followings the others and stays backwards-compatible , so that Mods from this game will continue to work in the newer-game.
I’m still not sure why the Reb ’s flags are not included in the game, since everyone uses them. They are a must have.
And the last thing, please add the Command-Height back into the game, the camera should stay at the ground level.

The only true logic is that, there is no true logic!
Re: Whats Next?
Are you saying a Civil War campaign system is in the works and in the near future?

Move Forward
Re: Whats Next?
Hmm, I'm not saying that it is in-the-works , but I would probably guess that it is a direction that the Single-Player-Game should head-towards for the future. Are you saying a Civil War campaign system is in the works and in the near future?

Re: Whats Next?
I've noticed that Leffe7, the developer of the Scenario Generator mod, has been part of the game Test Team for a while.
This leads me to think that the next iteration of the game will include an in-game scenario generator and possibly a campaign generator.

Re: Whats Next?
These are most definitely things that Norbsoft knows its player community wants. If things like a random scenario generator is made by the modding community and gets the support that Leffe7's mod has its clearly the kind of gaming asset players want so I hope Norb and the team take these kinds of community-made additions on board. An SP campaign generator is not so close to reality I think, that would require some serious code, but a scenario creation tool for SP and MP would be awesome. There could be a possibility of linking battles with your forces from a previous battle carried over with perhaps some replacements or reinforced units to make up a quasi-campaign like Garnier's SP campaign does but a full campaign played on a strategic map is a huge undertaking and really is a game in itself (like the AGEOD series) without considering a battle simulation wargame linked into it with tactical map generation and all the hard work that would need.
HITS & Couriers - a different and realistic way to play SoW MP.
