Marching.....Spacing
Marching.....Spacing
I was playing one of the Open Play games and decided to give the Supply Wagons a five-minute spacing to see if they would stay at that distance during the march.
I then ordered a Brigade to march behind them with the same spacing as the wagons.
It appears to work!
So, it would be a nice-feature if the New game allowed us to set a certain time-limit when units are ordered to march especially when ordering a Divisional-March .

Re: Marching.....Spacing
In what file is the time-based spacing specified? I would like to see battalions, squadrons and brigades use road spacing as well, they don't look good all jumbled up on a road.

Yes I absolutely agree. It would be both more historical, and look better too.In what file is the time-based spacing specified? I would like to see battalions, squadrons and brigades use road spacing as well, they don't look good all jumbled up on a road.
Great idea Davinci. How is it done?

Sorry for the ms-understanding here, I did this manually to illustrate the point that there should be something in the drills file to allow for separation when the units are marching.Yes I absolutely agree. It would be both more historical, and look better too.
It's too-late to have this feature added into this game, but not too late to request it in the new-game.

Re: Marching.....Spacing
Just as we did for fighting formations, we can add space between the regiments in a road march. That's just a minor change in the formation file.
I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.

Re: Marching.....Spacing
That would be a help. But you can't specify a distance between different brigades, or wagons, so two or more formations could still use the same road at the same time.

Re: Marching.....Spacing
Wagons are beyond redemption. To space out the brigades, we would need to create a division road column formation, order the division to the road in that formation and then order the division to their destination. They might assume the proper spacing while on the march, but part of the problem is that the brigades form up in a certain order. So going from the initial line formation to road column can mean a fair amount of chaos as they sort themselves into proper order. It's not impossible to achieve the desired effect, it will just eat up time during the start of the game.

Re: Marching.....Spacing
Sounds promising. Can we try that in a game?

Sure, we can try it out in the next Nappy game. I need to add a button to the GUI and send everyone the file.
