Game often crashes now

Up until recently the game worked fine on my Win8 laptop (game set to XP service pack 3 compatability). I have been playing on the Devil's Den map, and sometimes other maps. I have been using the Napoleonic mod. Up until a week or two ago my games, using various ORBATs played through to decision. Now they crash before I get far into a game.

I have had some Win8 updates in this time. Are other people who are up-to-date with Win8 experiencing difficulties?

Always helps to post the contents of your SOWGB.log directly after a crash so we can determine if its part of the game or a mod that is causing the issues.

I had checked that log file but there are no errors reported so I didn't mention it. The last thing it says is that the level loaded OK.

Ok thanks. Without any errors in the log it is pretty much impossible for us to tell what the issue is. So you'll have to do some trial and error on your end. Maybe it was an installed update. You may want to try and do a system restore to before the updates were installed to see if that helps, then you can narrow down what is causing the issue.

This sounds like the typical windows 8 crash that often happens a short way into a battle. We've had at least 10 multiplayer folks run into this problem, I think most of them just stopped playing since they usually crash near the beginning of a battle.

There's never an error in the log, and it only happens on windows 8.

In the previous game Windows Vista used to experience a crash if someone tried to play another game before exiting out of the current game.

It only happened to the Vista user's, so we sort of got used to going back to Windows before starting another game.

To put that another way, it was impossible to play another game unless the game was started over by going back into Windows.

I will try a rollback of Win8 updates and see what happens.
