American Rev. War mod anywhere??

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Hi John and Jack

I have been working steadily on new sprites with real life permitting. I have an OOB that I think Jack released a little while ago not sure yet which battle it was. The OOB had 3rd and 5th Dragoons on the American side so I am working at converting sprites that I think will be reasonably accurate from some of the images I have seen. I have completed light infantry for both british and american sides and have the 16th light dragoons complete. British line and American continentals are completed at least a generic form at the moment. Once the mod is up and running then I would love to spend time customising some of the other regiments involved. British artillery is almost complete, need to start on the American soon.

I am going to use the OOB that I have so that I can do any testing for single and multiplayer and if successful will expand it to other OOBs that are already complete.

Jack,
Trying to help, I have attached an old OOB for Brandywine that I did for TC2M. I tried to do as much online research to get the best data I could for it. Maybe you can use Garnier's EditOOB to convert it to SOW.

Hi All

Just an update to keep the thread alive. I have almost completed all the sprites I will initially need for the OOB_SB_NAP_ARW_SR8. Just working on the american artillery and then I have to complete entering the information into the csv files. I hope then to test it with some online friends I play with and then all being well place it on the forums for interested members. It will be generic to begin with and if all works well I will add different regiments if there is enough interest.

I would be interested in any feedback on what people think about having the dragoons firing from their horses? How common was this in the AWI?

If real life doesn't throw me a curved ball then it should be ready in a couple of weeks at the most.

Hi Remus

Looks like you've been busy.

Will you be covering the 1812 mod in your RnR update? I'd circulated some screens and OOBs previously.

If not I'll finish it off as a separate module.

Hi Crikey

Yes it always takes longer than you estimate. Getting closer to the finish but still dome hurdles to overcome. Almost all the sprites I need completed just getting the files in place and then some testing.

I was not aware of an 1812 mod ongoing at the moment although I think I remember reading some discussion at some point about one. If you are involved in one give me a shout if you need any help and your most welcome to anything I can offer

Hey all, just wanted to stop in and help keep the thread alive. :)

Unfortunately I've been very busy with a second job, online courses, and the urge to still actually play games and mods myself :P , but I am still very much interested in seeing these mods realized.

It was a bit disheartening not being able to convert those continental sprites myself with photoshop, (far too time consuming! :S ) and I'm not proficient enough at 3D modeling to be able to create them that way; But as soon as we get all the proper sprites we need, I should be able to complete the couple OOB's that I have (nearly finished) fairly quickly, and there's a few more that I've starting working on which should hopefully come later.

I have the OOB's for the following battles nearly completed, just so you guys know, (if anyone else is working on OOB's)

American War of Independence Battles of:
Camden (95% complete)
Cowpens (90% complete)
Guillford Courthouse (75% complete)

1812 Battle of:
Bladensburg (98% complete)
New Orleans (60% complete)

Also P.S.; I am very much willing to help with any research or historical questions anyone might have.

In reply to Remus regarding dragoons firing from horseback: While it certainly happened, The normal tactics were to dismount and make a firing line or charge with sabres drawn. I don't think it would be game-breaking or anything if they fired from horseback, but if its just as easy to implement, firing dismounted would probably be the way to go.

1longstreet...I have a battle of New Orleans oob up and running. I just need to allocate the correct Brit flags.

It'll be packaged like the Mexico 1836 mod.

Hi all

Just another update. I have completed the initial sprites I am going to use, generic to begin with and think of it initially as a work in progress once I can get it into the game. Most of the csv files have entries although once I try to play it I am sure to come across some mistakes. It won't be too long now, it is just hard to say exactly when, but it is definitely on its way.

Thanks for the input on the cavalry firing from the saddle. I will have them firing from the saddle initially and as far as I am aware it's only a matter of changing one entry in the csv to disable it if your preference is not to have it. I can later work on dismounting cavalry if that was a more preferred option by users.

Hi all

Quick update. Have today got the sprites for the AWI into the game. It is not yet complete as There is some tweaking to be done and I want to add a few more sprites for variety.
