Bugles & Flags XIX

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Thanks for the quick reply regarding the drills, I'll have a play around with this this week, maybe the weekend and get back to you. If the drills are for the formations, not sure why it would be in the courier mod them, seems strange.

Ok, sans flags, see if this works for Win 8 MP play...

Unzip and copy to the Mods folder
B&F Toolbar

If successful please report back so I can make this option more readily available...thanks in advance.
Status report enclosed...

we've been using the tool bar mod all day today - and not one crash with this. so it looks like the Win 8 Crashes are to do with the section you've left out. Loving the Tool bar as well!

End Report.

Good to hear that this works for you Win 8 MP guys. Now, to allow the Couriers & Maps mod to work with this please test the attached:
The attachment drills_2014-08-11.csv is no longer available
After downloading, copy this drills file (rename to drills) to the B&F Toolbar/Logistics folder, rename original. Then go into the Couriers & Maps/Logistics folder and rename the Drills and Gui.csv files. Enable both mods and test away, my preliminary testing showed no errors.

This combines both Drills files so most features should be available. The C&M toolbar, gui, is not necessary because the B&F Toolbar has similar features: hold line formations, artillery in front division formations, Corps level formations, etc.

One anomaly I see with the C&M mod is with the level 6 infantry line formations, this right quarter offset line placement as seen below. I've studied the formation and can't figure out what's causing it. Maybe MTG can weigh in on this.
Edit: Cause of anomaly fixed as of August 11th

Great thanks, we'll try this tomorrow, though we have disable the couriers one this evening as we were getting a few crashes on the courier screen.

We downloaded a textured map, which we really like - is there a textured map for the couriers mod as I want to test the couriers again with the new drills.

Done all of the above you mention, so far so good.

I do have a couple more questions though as some of the icons don't appear to do anything.

1. Take Charge Subordinate
2. Take Charge Subordinate OFF
3. TC Officers

When I click #1 on the div commander only the div commander has the TC flag set

e.g. If I'm a corp commander - and want to TC each division and brig commander - what is the best way of doing it? I assumed #1 above on the corp commander or #3 but when I looked at the div commanders the TC flag wasn't set.

Loving the icons though - just getting use to the split ones - e.g. double line / DL hold formation on the same icon.

Glad the mix is working, MTG had done extensive re-designs of formations and I knew this was an important feature of his mod, so all his formations are included.

As all veteran MP players know, Atcommon (Take Charge Subordinates) on and off won't work in MP play, either by keyboard or toolbar. It only works with SP play. Early on in pre-release we learned that Atcommon affected ALL players' units in an MP battle, thus, Atcommon was disabled for MP play.
What I didn't know is that TC Officers (command feature added post release via a patch) also does not work with MP, :( I tested it after seeing this thread.

Your best alternative for these is Attackmarch, for me it's really preferable.

Appreciate the feedback... :)

Thanks for explaining about the TCs.

We've tried playing a 3rd scenario today and it kept crashing after about 50 minutes, we're not sure what it is so we're going to try again without the toolbar mod to see if that was the cause. so might not be 100% fixed.

It could simply be network disconnecting...

With version 1.6, formations became slightly less rigid than in the past. You will also notice concave lines at times. When moving sideways in line formations, the line will sometimes move parallel to its path rather than perpendicular to it. That is a nice feature and much more realistic than the normal behavior of rotating the entire line 90 degrees and then marching off.

If you played at ground level rather than from your sissified helicopter, you'd never see that misalignment in the picture.
I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.

Aucommon???

hey reb...sorry, but NOT ALL veteran MP know about this stuff...I've been playing since v1 TCM and up to SOW Anniv Ed, and I don't auto-know these things...and I play SOW 1-2-3 times a week, always "hosting" (because i'm the only one with Win8), and so a lot of what "flys-by" here is close to Greek for me...BUT...I pay attention, follow the instructions, and am having a blast with all that you guys are "adding to" the game (we have solid 2-3-4 players always ready to try a new scenario)...so please, when you guys can, speak "English"!! :-)
