Custers Last Stand

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

ok, I have to admit i'm a little confused -

1: martin had posted me that only Courrier&Maps (along with LBH obv) should be "on" to play ?

2: but in a prev. post he’d said: “It's designed to be played with HITS and couriers”...what’s HITS ?

3: but someone else had told me in order to play LBH I also needed the following mods on: Road2War, KSSowSupplmaps, KSNapmod ?

Hi John

Sorry, that's probably partly loose language on my part. HITS & couriers is a style of playing, which could involve one of several mods, or even just the stock game. HITS means headquarters in the saddle - ie your in-game view is tied to where you sit. Couriers means that all communication is by courier, and not instant. All of the games played by our KS Group are HITS & couriers by the way, because we like things as close as possible to the constraints faced by historical generals.

CouriersAndMaps is a neat mod designed by MTG which enhances the courier experience, provides some excellent period-style mini-maps, and makes some other improvements to the stock game. I always play LBH (and ACW) with this mod enabled, but I think you can play it without. For the time being I would suggest you just try LBH with no other mod enabled. If you experience no problems, I would then enable CouriersAndMaps and see if that works. If not, let me know and we'll get to the bottom of it.

KSSowSupplmaps is a generic mod which brings a lot of extra maps produced by modders together in one package, and provides mini-maps for them. You can use that for games in several periods, and together with several other mods.

Road to Wagram and KSNapmod are for Napoleonic games only. They have no relevance to games set in other periods, such as LBH. Use both of them (in that order) if you would like to try Napoleonic games. A huge amount of work has gone into them by several people and, pending the new Waterloo game, are probably the best simulation of Napoleonic battle around.

Hope that helps

I think so. But that's probably one for those who know the game better........MTG? Davinci?

Hi John

The log file doesn't flag a problem, but there may be a conflict with the toolbar mod you're using. Suggest you disable that and try again.

Are you playing as the US army btw? At the moment the game is designed to be played against the Sioux. I am intending to extend it so you can play against the army, but if you try that with this version strange things may happen :)

If none of that helps, let me know what map you are using and I'll try and replicate the problem.

ok, just played over 2hr of a 3hr sandbox game (as a brigade under custer, no other mods on and with the "options" posted) and I crashed...log file attached...

(no idea what last line means: "07:00:01 Game Ended because: Player decimated and gave up"...I didn't quit the game, it crashed?)

I'd suggest playing without the Bugles and Flags toolbar. Mods can clash in unknown ways and unless you are playing ONLY with the LBH mod its very hard for mod authors to replicate your problems. If a mod crashes, the first thing to do is switch off all other mods and see if its stable then.
HITS & Couriers - a different and realistic way to play SoW MP.
