Modding OOBs

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

I may have to try that, but I'm not sure how. Thanks
Something along the lines of going to the Control Panel - and finding a Program called Add \ Remove Programs - and uninstalling the version of open Office.

Then, using a Google Search to locate an Open Office Version that is compatible with the version of Windows that you have.

You are probably going to have to spend a little bit of time researching which version works best for you.

Hope this Helped!

I removed 4.1.1 and downloaded 3.4.1. It has not changed anything as far as I can tell. There are older versions. I'll have to give another shot.

Also try reading the user replies since they have already tested the different versions.

In my experience OO does bad things. If i recall there is a pop up when opening csv files in OO, make sure the correct separation variable "," is selected as there are options to use other things like quotation and 'space'. From the screenshot it looks like you have space selected.

Okay. I had a little success. I deleted Blenheim and re-downloaded it and put it back in the mods folder. Now I can read the OOB's with OpenOffice 3. The csv's are back in the nice columns. My next problem is entering a modified OOB into the game. Especially the Blenheim mod. I am placing it in the mods folder of the Blenheim mod. The name shows up in the OOB menu. When I start the game , it crashes. Here is a partial copy. It's just a small version of Blenheim OOB. I removed a lot of units and renumbered some so they would be in order.

Line 62 is in error - which makes Line 63 in error - you messed up on the sequence.

Line 65 is in error - You should have a Divisional Commander listed on that line.

Keep at it, this is the only way of learning how it works, but once you get the hang of it you are free to edit any OOB at will.

Davinci, I corrected the errors and checked over it again. The OOB seems fine. It still will not work. Very confused. Here is the corrected version.

9thBtnMOS - I can't read the information in the file, all of the units seem to blend together for some reason.

Try This - do the the fact that I'm still under the impression that your version of OO is in error.

Locate a OOB from one of your Mods that you know is working correctly.

Make a copy of that OOB and move it to the desktop or somewhere safe.

Now, using the Open Office that you have take the OOB that you have in a Mod and make a very small change to it and then Save it .

Now, start the game and choose that OOB that you just made a small change to and see if it works.

If it does, then your Open Office can save files, if it doesn't work the problem is with Open Office.

I have had no luck. I've tried an earlier version and while the csv file made sense, I was still unable to add the modded OOB to the game. I really don't want to shell out a bunch of money for Microsoft office or whatever their latest Word program is.

Davinci, I did what you suggested. I believe you're right and the OpenOffice is the problem. Thanks for the help.

Another Suggestion:

Try to find an Windows8 \ Open Office Forum - and see how everyone else is working around the problems.

I did come across a Forum when I looked for a solution to help you out, but I don't remember any more information about which forum it was.

There is a 99% chance that there is someone somewhere that has experienced the same problem and have found a solution to it.
